Triple Screen vs Quad Screen

So I had the triple screen at 12 wks and an ultra sound to measure spine etc.  My blood test results for this test came back normal with a 1:1300 chance that my baby could have downs.  Last week at 17 weeks I had the quad screen.  I got my results yesterday.  All of them came back normal except the downs syndrome.  This test showed that I have a  1:62 chance that my baby could have downs.  I am going to schedule the level 2 u/s to further check.  I was wondering what exactly is the difference between these 2 tests.  How can one tell me my odds are 1:1300 and then the other tell me my odds are 1:62?

Re: Triple Screen vs Quad Screen

  • As I understand it, when you combine the results from the triple and quad, it is called the "integrated" screen and it is said to be more predictive with a lower false positive rate. That said, it is still a screen, so in all likelihood all is well with your lo.

There are lots of websites that describe this screen. This is one of them:
