I am in my 38th week and have leaned towards wanting a vbac since the beginning although I am not concerned about a rcs if it is necessary. I do want to see what my body is capable of which is why I told my doctor no to stripping of the membranes last week. I want to tell her no again today but I know she wants to give me the best chance of a natural delivery with a smaller baby. I just want to see whether my body will get there on its own. I am already at 3 cm as of last week. Anyone else get this done? On a side note, I'm also terrified of the risk of uterine rupture with a vbac which is why I'm nervous now. I had a c the first time because he wouldn't go down although I was fully dilated.
Re: New and in need of advice/reassurance
FWIW, stripping of the membranes won't do anything if your body isn't ready for labor. So, if you get it done and your body doesn't want to have that baby yet, then nothing will happen. There are some small risks (and I guess the benefit is getting that baby here).
If you aren't comfortable with it, decline and reconsider it for next week.
Also, there are many risks for RCS that rival the tiny UR risk that seems to plague VBACers. Trust me, when you go into labor, that will not be on your mind!
I agree that stripping membranes isn't likely to do much if you body isn't ready on its own, so if you aren't comfortable with it, just keep declining.
You also never know what your body will do this time, it could be completely different than last time. The risk of rupture is still pretty small, especially if you don't have pitocin or cervix ripeners or epidural.
