Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Son throws himself back question

Hey ladies, don't post much here (more on Feb 12), but wanted to ask a greater pool or women.

My five month-old will be sitting and just randomly throws himself backwards.  He doesn't do it while eating, so it makes me think it isn't a reflux thing.  If you let him stand, he is fine and doesn't usually do it either.

We thiiiink it may be just because he wants to be standing, but we're not sure.  Anyone else's little ones do this?  Or have any reasoning why he might be doing it?

TIA!

  • Mine does this too.  He does have reflux but it is well controlled.  When he throws himself back, he doesn't seem to be in pain so I'm not sure what the cause is!

Huh, strange... but I'm really glad he's not the only one!!  :]  Even just you saying your little guy does it too makes me feel better.  :]  I've never seen a baby do this before.

He seems like he just always wants to stand.  He throws himself back in the Bumbo, but not in his jumper.  Thanks so much!  :]

My DS always wants to stand and will throw himself back also to try to get into a standing position it seems. Some times when he does it when sitting I think he's just trying to scoot forward to get to a toy or something.

  • Yep.  Mine does this too.  He loves standing.  Unfortinately, my arms are getting tired from holding my big man up all day.
  • My DD does the same thing and LOVES standing.  It was pretty surprising at first as my first DD had no interest in standing until well after 6 months and never did this.
