Anyone with longer second pregnancy?

Hi all!  I am wondering how long PPs second pregnancy was compared with the first.  I know every pregnancy is different, but DD came at 37w6d and without any complications or reason, so I am thinking this baby will be about the same.  Did anyone have their second pregnancy go significantly longer or post-dates?  I'm at a little higher risk for early delivery based on my age (42).

I'm trying to figure this out because my boss is highly discouraging me from going out on disability before I actually go into labor.  He works in a different building and rarely even comes to our department so doesn't have a very good idea of the workflow here.  Conversely, I am the supervisor in my department and have a really good idea of how devastating it would be for me to suddenly be out 2 weeks earlier than expected.  (This all may be moot b/c given how exhausted I am chasing DD while only 30 weeks, I'm not so sure I will even be up to working right up until I go into labor.)  Thanks for any input you can give me!  (OB wasn't so helpful when I asked her.)

#2 - right on her due date.

I did go out 2 weeks early but that was because I was leaving that job anyway so the length of leave after baby was born didn't matter. I was also worried (like you) about leaving suddenly so it was easier to just go out early.

  • I went 6 days overdue with my first and 12 days early with my second.  Every pregnancy is different though.  My mom carried my older sister for 43 weeks; I was 6 weeks early, and then she went on to carry my younger brothers (twins) for 43 weeks.

  • Thank you so much for sharing everyone!  I think I am just going to go out early regardless.  The truth is, it would be better for my employer and my colleagues even if my boss doesn't realize it, I am entitled to take it b/c it is part of my benefits package, and I think my own well-being may depend on it a little.   I really appreciate all your input.  Take care!
