C-sections

Conceiving again after c-section

It's been 18 months since my son was born and I had an emergency c-section with him, so my next pregnancy will most likely result in a scheduled CS. My question is how long did you momma's wait to conceive again after your c-section and at how many weeks do they do the rcs? Thanks ladies!

Re: Conceiving again after c-section

  • I got pregnant when my daughter was 9 months old but it wasn't "planned".  They delivered my daughter at 39 weeks 3 days for my rcs.  Usually it is at 39 weeks, but it was superbowl weekend so i waited until that Tuesday :)

  • I got pregnant again when DD1 was 14 months old.  I tried for a vbac, but my doctor did tell me that if I chose rcs, he'd deliver at 39 weeks.

Don't be afraid to give your doctor a call and ask him these questions.  I'm sure he'd be able to give you some answers.

  • I had an emergency c-section with my son because of HELLP syndrome. We are 19 weeks pregnant with twin boys. I have elected to have a c-section because of the possibility of having HELLP syndrome & twins. The c-section hasn't been scheduled, but the OB practice doesn't schedule until 39 weeks.

We are TTC starting next month, when DD will be 17m. Both me and my OB preferred a minimum of two years between deliveries; DD will be at least 2y2m by the time I deliver my second.

I can't help you with the second part of the question.

  • I got pregnant when my first was 10 months.  My Dr. told me to wait at least a year and I almost waited. I was just going into my second tri at my daughters 1st birthday.  My girls are 16 months apart - should have been 18, but my 2nd had other plans.  Both were c-sections due to breech babies.

  • My first c-section baby was a year old when I got pregnant with DS. DS was delivered at 39 weeks.
  • We conceived 14 mos. after our first.  No problems at all.  The RCS was scheduled for 39 weeks and 2 days (since 39 wks was a Saturday and the hospital doesn't schedule them on weekends).  My water ended up breaking and LO came on the Saturday at 39 weeks via c-section anyway...  lol, she wanted to pick her own birthday.  Since I had already gone for the pre-admission testing, etc., it wasn't as rushed or "emergency-like" as the first time.

We are going to start to TTC in October, which is the 6 month mark. It took a few years to conceive a healthy pregnancy. Since we are in our 30's we decided to start TTC sooner. If we were younger we may have waited a year or two.

We started trying when LO was about a year and a half but it took us a little longer than anticipated. For a RCS they generally schedule you in the 39th week to try and avoid doing an emergency C-section after labor has started.

Also you may be able to attempt a VBAC. I was really ok with having a RCS, but if a VBAC is something you think you may want I would look into what OB's in your area do them.

2 years to start TTC again. I got the all clear from my doctor to get pregnant again 6 months after my son was born.

    I'm hoping for a VBAC.

  • My first c/s was scheduled due to placenta previa at 37w6d.

My 2nd was almost exactly 2 years after my first at 39w1d, I think.

My 3rd will be 2 years and 2 weeks after my 2nd at 39w3d.

  • My c/s were a little over 13 months apart.  My OB said we could start ttc after 3 months.  We ended up actually waiting 5 months.  I went into labor on my own at 36w6d and had a repeat c/s.  I wouldn't classify it as emergency just b/c I went into labor but I'm not sure if my OB did (no mention).

    I'm scheduled for another c/s next month @ 37w3d.

  • Magdalina.h, this might be a silly question, but what exactly is a classical incision?

  • I definitely don't want a VBAC! I've thought about it, but after doing 23 hours of hard labor without any meds, then getting an epidural and a spinal 20 minutes later, I've decided I would rather take the easier route of a RCS. My first labor was not a good experience and I can't imagine going through that again :/

  • DS was 21mo when I got pg, I decided I was ready to TTC again when he was 18mo (mainly b/c he was finally STTN regularly). My OB said the rcs will be scheduled for after 39wks b/c of insurance which makes me think that he would've wanted to schedule it sooner.

  • None of our kids were "planned". I got PG with DD#2 when DD#1 was 9 months old. Got PG with DS when DD#2 was 10 months old. Had 3 c-sections in 3 years. I got PG with #4 when DS turned 3. I will have a 4th c-section and my OB assures me it's not an issue.

They have never done a c-section (a RCS) earlier than 39 weeks, unless it is an emergency - in other words, you have gone into labor.

  • My OBGYN recommended a year.  We aren't having more babies, but I think it is a pretty standard recommnedation so the uterus can totally heal.

  • I got pregnant when DH was 7 months old... Not planned.  We're planning a RCS at 39 weeks, if I make it hat long. DD Wanda scheduled cs at 37 weeks due to pre-e.

  • I ended up needing an emergency c/s and because of the reason why I needed it my OB said there isn't much of a chance I could deliver naturally. She said I should wait a year and a half before getting pregnant again but she never said when I would be induced with a next.

  • DD was a year old when we decided to try for #2--she was IUI so we thought we'd have to go thru a few rounds of IUI before we got DS but we got him the first try :-)  So, DD was 22 mos old when DS was born (she was a c-sect);  they were going to take DS at 39wks (RCS) but he came at 37wks (I actually went into labor at 36wks but they held me off until he was 37wks and I had a RCS)
