Baby Registries

I'm a compulsive preplanner, so I've started eyeing some potential registry places. I think we're going to go with Babies R Us, Walmart, and Amazon.com. Is three registry places too many? Any thoughts/suggestions on those three choices?

  • I am also a compulsive pre planner! :) I don't think that's too many personally, gives friends & family choices & different price ranges.

  • You can make as many registries as you want. In fact, I believe Amazon will let you combine items from any website, so you can still link to them all in one place. Also, I know that BRU at least gives you a completion coupon for any items you don't get, so you might as well make one there!

When we registered for our wedding, I did notice that not many guests got us items off our Amazon account. Also, I've never been clear on how registry returns would work on Amazon. You should double check Wal-Mart's registry return policy, I know Target's is terrible =P

  • My sister registered at Target for her wedding. They totally screwed her over. Because of THEIR error, she ended up with duplicates of several items including 3 of the same dang toaster - and Target wouldn't let her return any of it! As good as they are with regular returns, they suck with registry returns. She later discovered on message boards, etc. that she was not alone in getting screwed over.

BB&B on the other hand, has an awesome return policy and let us return things for up to 2 years after our wedding for store credit OR cash! Since Buy-Buy Baby is the same company as BB&B, I imagine they have a good policy as well. I've also heard good things about BRU.

All this might be different by state and maybe changes over time. All I'm saying is, the return policy can make a big difference so be sure to clarify ahead of time! :)

  • You're completely right, Julia. Though I didn't have trouble with Target, I've heard bad things with registries from them in general.

And about BBB, yes, their returns should be as good as BB&B, and it's a nationwide policy thing, I think. And though their print and online things (as well as on TB) say that the completion is 10%, I was told in store when registering that it's actually now 15%, so that makes them more competitive in my mind.

And about the original question: our friends just had their shower, and they registered at like three or four places, as well. For them, I thought it was a bit much because there weren't even that many people at their shower, and they already have money to spend on their own (I know, judgmental), I don't think that's too many in general. (We had three registries for our wedding.) If you like something from there, why not register, get some free goodies, and then get a good coupon afterward to complete it? Makes sense to me.

  • I dont see a problem with three.

We'll be doing two or three because not all of our family has access to places we're registering or shop online. This way everyone can access a registry of some kind.

We're planing on Target. I LOVE Target - I had no issues with my wedding registry. I can see how someone could get duplicates though, it takes about 24 to 48 hours for and item to appear as "sold" on the registry.

Also Wal-Mart for some of our guest who only have a Wal-Mart in their area. And finally Buy-Buy-Baby (we chose this instead of Baby's R Us). BBB is a branch of Bed Bath and Beyond as someone else mentioned. They have some of the best quality and safest items (so does BRU).

  • I started with all BRU but changed a lot over to Target as it was cheaper and easier for guests to get to. I have most of my things on Target now with just a few things not offered there at BRU.

  • I'm doing amazon.com and target. I'm not sure I would even have enough stuff to put on three registries, but it does make it easier for people to shop. It will be interesting to see how long I'm able to hold off on buying things myself. I suspect I will buy most things off my registry before my shower. In that case I guess it is more like a shopping list.
