Pregnant after a Loss

Let's Talk Body Pillows

So I am slowly getting a bump and sleeping for me has become more and more difficult. I use to be able to switch sides but now the only way that's comfortable is on my left side. ( yes I know it's the best side to sleep on) but I need help with making it a little more comfortable. I sleep with a pillow in between my legs and then I have one for my boobs and belly. I have always slept this way even before pregnant. The side sleeping hurts my shoulder after awhile. Do Body pillows help with this? and if so what one did you get? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Let's Talk Body Pillows

  • I had a Snoogle when I was pg with DS.  It had mixed reviews for me.  My biggest issue was that you couldn't use your own pillow because the Snoogle had a hook at the top to use for your head and it just was not comfortable for me.  I had to use a Swedish foam pillow so I had a little more support for my head.

This time, I have the Preggle which is just half of the Snoogle. I don't have to give up my head pillow and there are many different positions you can use with this pillow as well.

One thing I find really frustrating with both pillows is that they tend to get flat quickly so I have to fluff it up every time I get into bed.

  • I've been sleeping with a body pillow from Target since about 25 weeks, and it's helped me a whole lot. I've found if I can kind of wedge it under my whole body I can lay a little bit more on my belly and less on my side, which helps with shoulder and hip pain.

  • Thank You Ladies, I guess I will try buying another one of my pillows to help out vs body pillow. I use goose down pillows and I will look for a more firm one that I can maybe manipulate to help with my shoulder. I also do the half belly/side but I feel guilty but there is definitely a pillow there and belly is not touching the bed.

  • I love my snoogle.  It's not perfect, but for me it is a lot better than chasing pillows around the bed all night.  I toss and turn a lot and it is nice that my snoogle is alway right where I need it.  Sometimes I sleep facing it, which is great on my legs, belly, the works.  Other times I am 3/4 on my back but w my back partially on the snoogle.  Odd position but surprisingly comfortable.  Regardless, it is much better on my shoulders, the main thing that kept me from side sleeping before.

  • I was having a lot of hip pain, and I bought the Snoogle, and hated it. I needed some support for my belly, and the Snoogle was too high and firm to get under my belly. It also gave me awful neck aches.

I bought the Boppy wedge pillow, and use that under my belly, and I have a spare pillow for between my legs, and that is what is working for me now.

  • I loooooove my body pillow.  I have the same problem and I usually love sleeping on my stomach or on my back and I can't do either which drives me nuts.  I just bought a regular body pillow and it has helped alot. I fall asleep and stay asleep a lot easier than I used to.  I didn't buy anything fancy.. I think I spent $20.

I also have the snoogle, I just wanted to add that because I am so short (5'1) the part that is supposed to go between your knees is practically at my ankles so I have to squish up the pillow to get it in the right spot.

That being said I have slept well with it, but my shoulders and hips still ache at night and in the morning.  I have to do the Snoogle toss (where I throw the whole thing over my body and try to flip over to my other side) several times a night.

  • I got a body pillow for $15 from costco.  I didn't want to spend a lot if I wasn't even sure if I would like it.  I will say it helps me sleep a lot better overall.  Although, with my bad heartburn I have trouble sleeping anyway.  I am really glad I got the body pillow though instead of fighting with multiple regular pillows.

  • I was a back sleeper before pregnancy, so the whole sleeping situation has been difficult for me. The first few weeks I was able to use just one body pillow (one from Target for around $20) but as I got closer to the 16 week mark where I was told to stop sleeping on my back, I purchased the Boppy Total Body Pillow. I use the Boppy for my front, and my other body pillow on my back. I know, I am surrounded by pillows, lol. I like both of them, but as my belly gets bigger I prefer the Boppy. I have had minimal shoulder, knee or hip pain with both, but I also prop the head part of the Boppy up on my normal pillow.

  • I bought a Snoogle but barely used it. I move around while I sleep and you're stuck in the same position with the snoogle.  I used it mostly to lay down during the day.

  • I have a $20 body pillow from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and a Preggle. I love the Preggle. The body pillow is left over from my first pregnancy and was pretty flat, but it worked wonders at the time. I like the Preggle because I can use it to support my belly and put it in between my legs.
