allergy or not? help mspi moms

Hello everyone! My LO has woken 4 to 6 times a night since birth (she is now 6 months old).  She has never shown any true signs of a food allergy.  Well, two weeks ago I decided to eliminate dairy, soy, sugar, and gluten from my diet to see if it would help my LO sleep better.  She has been going to sleep easier and only waking twice a night now to eat and then falls back to sleep.  She used to wake 4 to 6 times a night on a good night and would need help falling back to sleep. I find it interesting that she started sleeping better when i eliminated these 4 things from my diet.  Now I am wondering does this mean that she has an allergy to one of them? even though she didnt have alarm raising signs (vomiting, green poo, etc.)...

Re: allergy or not? help mspi moms

  • Hmmmmmm interesting. Did you start solids a the same time? That might have helped. I can't imagine that helping as the true symptoms are blood in the diaper, and obvious discomfort, eczema, etc. It would be an intolerance as opposed to an allergy at this point, but either way, you could test adding one back at a time and seeing if there's a relapse in sleep. How long have you rid those items from your diet and how long has she been sleeping well?  Dairy and soy take a few weeks to leave your system as well as your LO's. If I were in your shoes id probably go about whatever I was doing just in case it was why the sleep is better!

  • i don't think it would be a true allergy or intolerance but maybe a slight sensitivity? i don't think she would've made it this far without it being diagnosed. it could just give her some gas & maybe that is relieved helping her sleep better? i agree that it is probably the solids.

as hlc said, there would be blood in the diaper, green poop, painful gas & overall screaming a lot.

  • Thanks so much for your input! To answer your questions, she is not on solids. Tried them but she was just spitting it out and pedi said she's probably not ready and to try again in a week or two.  So she is strictly just drinking bm. I eliminated dairy, soy, gluten, sugar from my diet almost two weeks ago on a monday and she literally started sleeping better that wednesday I think...if not tuesday.  Not sure what it was but she is napping better and sleeping better...she hasn't had any blow out diapers or spit up since.  Now here's another question I'm hoping you can help me with Smile...will my supply drop if I am not eating dairy, or grains? I have been making sure to eat avocado, almond butter, olive oil, lots of fruit, veggies, and protein.  How do you manage to keep your supply up? Does it matter if you are not eating dairy or grains? I have been supplementing with calcium 2x a day and a prenatal.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
