I am throwing in the towel right now (CD related)

At least as a short-term, night time only fix.  Recommend your overnight disposable (and yes, it kills me to say that...who woulda thunk that 9 months ago?) diapers...keeping in mind that Stella is a skinny baby (she is probably just over 19 lbs. now).

Like I said, this is only a short term solution.  Mommy is very exhausted these days (when she wakes up soaked, she is pissed, and then she's wide awake for a few hours, and I need to change her, and her bed...good times).  After she has the tubes next week, I think there are several things we are going to be working on - including her night time meal and bedtime snack.  I will also look into hemp inserts (and I'm sorry Kimbo, I haven't ventured to the FB group yet, but I will).

Re: I am throwing in the towel right now (CD related)

  • Oh No! We have been out of CDs fulltime for almost 2 months. I sent all of our H/L diapers to be converted and just got them back. We now have a yeast infection and I dont want to deal with treating them each time. Once the yeast is gone we will go back to using them.  Right before we stopped we were having night-time leak issues and I had just purchased Hemp, that I have not even prepped. We have been having nighttime leaks in disposables, so I am hoping to go back to CDs soon. Have you thought about using a fitting with a wool cover or fleece?

When I find time (my days and even weekends are so hectic right now) I am going to go over to the local place I buy CDs and talk to them about some solutions so like I said, this is just a temporary solution.

Out of curioisty...where did you send your diapers to be converted?  And how much is it costing you?

  • I am CD, but when i have used disposables i tend towards pampers stay dry-.

A suggestion to consider with your CD's.  DD had a huge leak problem for a long time and every morning i was washing her bedding.  So then I finally asked around to my other CD mom friends and they gave me this suggestion that has worked and never been a problem since!!!

I just FuzziBunz pockets at night, stuffed with a microfiber insert then a hemp soaker behind it.  Yes, the diaper is a little thicker but its only at night and hasnt been a problem with leaking ever!  Also, the FB pockets are nice bc the legs and the waist are adjustable for sizing.  So i make sure the leg holes are snug against her leg.

  • Sorry to hear this. We switched to using Earth's Best disposables for overnight when he developed a sore on his manhood from the ammonia in the CD. I really like them, he rarely wakes up soaked and its about $11.50 for a pack of 40, plus they are all natural and are better for the environment.

There was a gal that was local, but she just moved to California. She needed some pockets so we worked out a deal where she converted 25 diapers for me and I gave her 10 pockets. They were BG 3.0s which I only paid about $3.40 a diaper for. She replaced all of the elastics and Snaps. I purchased the Snaps and elastic which cost me roughly $50 bucks...If you want I can contact her and see when she will be ready to do more. I am pleased with her work :) I think she may charge $4 for snap conversion and elastic refreshment.

If you want to try a fitted I could send you one to try since they are just sitting around at the moment.

You ladies should try Pampers Swaddlers.  Lamar has NEVER EVER EVER woken up with a leaky diaper.  Now they have been super heavy and the size of a softball but no leaks. I think the beads in the Swaddlers nix leaks.

Yes and yes - if you could contact her and find out the info, that would be great - because some of the older H/L are starting to lose their 'stickiness'.

I have never tried a fitted before so a brief explanation would be helpful.  Until now, pockets have been perfect for us (when she was smaller, I was also a fan of the best bottom and flips).

We were definitely a fan of Pampers over Huggies when we were doing disposables.  When her CD does not leak, Stella's diaper weighs a TON in the a.m.  DH is amazed by it.

I have one FB...and I'm not really a fan of it, it's kinda sitting on the sidelines.  I'll have to readjust the elastic and give it another shot.

A fitted is essentially 1 absorbent diaper and no PUL. It is typically made with Organic Bamboo Valour which is pretty absorbent. You have to use a cover and the favorites for fitteds are wool or fleece longies or shorties. I have just used an empty pocket, but the Wool and Fleece will ad another layer of absorption.

Same here.  We have used Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive since birth, and she's woken up a tiny bit wet maybe 2-3 times when she was really tiny, but never again.

  • My MIL stocked us up with diapers from here to kingdom come.  When we started CD'ing a few months, we kept using sposies at night.  We just use whatever she gave us (mostly huggies and pampers) and never have leaks with either.  However, when we have used CDs overnight, we haven't had leak problems with those either.  So, maybe A is just not a heavy wetter.

The cheapest option that I find almost as good as pampers is Target's Up&Up brand.  I like them a lot.  However, with any sposie, we have to lather her up with cream before bed as her skin is really sensitive and breaks out easily.

Honestly, I would try to limit what shes drinking in the evening and before bed. We use pampers baby dry and have had no problems. DS is tall and thin. He's 32 inches and 21.5 pounds. I've tried up and up, Huggies, luvs and parents choice, and all have been an issue mostly with how they fit.

  • A fitted is an excellent option! And econobum covers are so generous in their sizing that they would easily cover a fluffy overnight fitted.

In regards to disposables - we use them at night. (ammonia) We use and adore huggies pure and natural. They are so so soft and don't smell weird.

  • It sounds like Stella is a really heavy wetter, like my DS. He has NEVER been able to wear a pocket diaper at night, even double or triple stuffed. He wears pockets that are double stuffed with hemp during the day, so it would just never work at night.

I really think you should look into fitteds with a wool cover. Wool sounds intimidating at first, but I have never ever had a leak with the combo we use now. At night he typically wears a Sbish snapless fitted and a WCW interlock wool soaker. I personally think interlock is the most bullet proof solution. I've tried upcycled wool (like merino) and it just wasn't as good as interlock. You can find WCW soakers used on Spot's Corner. I bought one of mine new and one used and you honestly wouldn't be able to tell which one is which. They hold up really well and are much cheaper used. If you do go that route, feel free to PM me for help with lanolizing (or anything else fitted/wool related!). It's not hard, but you just have to know what to do.

This! We love Pampers Sensitive Swaddlers.  Never ever had a leak.  No funky gel on her skin (this happened to us with Huggies). I am only able to find them at Target.

I never really experimented with cloth overnight---we had leaks in the very beginning, I bought a wool soaker (that has still gone unused...I know, I know) and just never attempted to figure out what worked.  Here we are 9 months into CDing and we've always used sposies at night.  I keep saying I'm gonna give it a shot but haven't yet.

We use an extra help insert at night and do not leak. I am intrigued by wool though. I want to try a fitted and wool . What is wcw? Since I am just wanting to try wool I wouldn't mind lightly used. What should I search I spots?

WCW stands for Wild Coconut Wear (previously Wild Child Woolies). She makes great wool covers, shorties and longies. You can definitely find them on Spot's Corner, just search WCW, but they go fast. DS fits into his medium soaker still, but also has a large one that fits well too. At this point, I wouldn't buy medium for DS anymore, but if Finely is small, I might still try that size for her.

Let me know if you have any more questions! Wool and fitteds are awesome. They're super breathable, so I feel better about him staying in that combo for 12 hours at night.

Also, Suni- I wanted to add, there's nothing wrong with taking a break. I was just offering a suggestion for when/if you're ready to try again. GL!
