I was thinking about Barnes & Noble GCs like HarrietNJsmommy does. Then another nestie suggested just getting to the point and offering books. So I picked up a variety of titles for the joint bday for DD and DS, all paperback -- Dora, Diego, Little Critter, Franklin, easy readers ranging from princesses and Fancy Nancy to sharks and dinosaurs. With the 4-for-3 Amazon deal, they were a little over $3/each. I also offered a little bead ring (12 for 2.50) or plastic alligator (about the same) and small sheets of stickers I picked up at a craft place.

The books were HUGE hit both with the kids and parents. The kids loved getting to come over and pick out their own books. The parents loved not having a bag of plastic junk to take home.

Guess I know what we are doing next year...
