Crafty gals - redoing a folding table?

We have a few of those office style folding tables that we use for all sorts of things. Their #1 purpose has always been for DH to bring out for his friends to use for their computers when they visit and they all play computer games a few times a year. (yes, I am kind of married to a high school boy, ha!)

We left the tables outside after Lexi's birthday party and the tops got wet, so the contact paper on top of them is all damaged and peeling off. (It's that "wood" styled top, but obviously just paper, not even plastic or anything). I told him I could probably recover them somehow for him. Pinterest wasn't much help, and I only found one site googling, and they mod podged it with wrapping paper.

WWYD? I was thinking new contact paper cut to fit, but would wrapping paper/mod podge work better? It needs to be pretty smooth on top so the guys can use a mouse for gaming. (But I guess they could always use mouse pads)

  • you can buy sheets of laminate (just has a sticky back) and put it over the tables.  I?ve done it with cheap old office desks; the only issue is the corners sometimes are hard to match up.  Depending on the type of sides they do sell strips sidings but I?ve never bothered with that part

  • You can? That would be even better! do you cut them to fit yourself, or do they come in different sizes? Do they sell them at office stores?

We had to cut ours own to fit (aka corner issues). It comes in a large roll (different colors) at our homedepot.  It wasnt the easiest thing to work with but cut it big and trim it at home

  • It sounds like you like Wendy's idea but I just wanted to let you know I've mod-podged (?) a lot of different things and it would be flat if you used one even layer or paper but you might run into an occasional air bubble. If you go slow and apply a little a time, they shouldn't be that bad though.

  • that's awesome! We do have a table like that and now I totally want to make it cute :)

The ones I need to fix though are like this - its particle board with contact paper over it.
