  • Just wondering what others experienced.

I had an abscess and massive internal infection 1 wk PP.  I had to be hospitalized for 5 days on IV antibiotics.

  • With c/s #1, no.

With c/s #2, yes, and infection along incision line, no hospitalization, just a cream/ointment that I put on top for a week.

  • Infection of the incision.  It had to be re-opened and I was given antibiotics to take at home.  Had a nurse visit daily for three weeks to pack the wound.  Worst part of my entire labor/delivery/recovery ordeal.

  • My incision become infected. IV antibiotics once in the ER and at home on oral antibiotics. This is the worst part of labor and delivery.

I am happy to hear I am not the only one.

  • My incision became infected 2x. The first time, it opened on its own, and had to be cleaned and pack by my doctor every day for nearly 3 weeks. A week later, another infection opened it up. After 6 freaking weeks of wound care, it finally closed back up. Luckily, no hospitalization required, though.

  • Infection of the incision site at 1w PP.

IV antibiotics in the ER - discharged.

Admitted to hospital after incision ruptured.  Ruptured in two placed.  Hospitalized for 8 days.  Was discharged with a PICC line and still on IV antibiotics.

Home health care for a month.

New infection in wound at 12 weeks.  Heavy duty oral antibiotics at home.  Intermuscular injections of more antibiotics.

DH still packing wound almost 14 weeks later.  :(

  • After my first c/s I developed an infection within a few hours of giving birth - I was on IV and oral antibiotics my entire stay in the hospital and for 10 days after I got home (oral antibiotics).  4 weeks later I got a nasty UTI (supposedly from the catheter) and had to be on another round of oral antibiotics.  It sucked majorly!  My second c/s - nothing, not one problem.  Hoping for the same this time around!! :)

I was in the hospital for a month.   I had my c-section on June 14 and was supposed to go home on June 18.   I was moved to CCU instead.   Was sent home July 2.   Back in the hosptial on July 7 and needed surgery on July 8.   I had lots of issues.   Pneumonia.  Extremely high blood pressure.    Kidney failure.   Needed multiple blood transfusions.    Turned out that I had a nasty pool of festering old blood in my abdominal cavity and all my organs were covered in pus.   My body was basically attacking itself as it tried to dissolve/get rid of the pool of blood.

They think that the stress of the c-section sent me into a hypertensive crisis and the pool of blood was from some blood vessels bursting.

  • I had a fever by the time I got to the OR, so I blame the gazillion cervical checks I had after my water was broken, not the c/s. I was readmitted at 6 days postpartum for IV abx. Diagnosis was endometritis.
  • I got a mild UTI - made them test me the day after surgery because I am super prone to them and voila.  I took antibiotics for five days and had no further issues.

  • For cuppaco and akayf, just wanted to say that I am sorry you had to go through all  of that.  My infection wasn't nearly as bad, and even then it was very scary.  I hope that you have no further issues in the future.

Thanks.   Luckily, now a year later, I have not had any long term complications.   My BP is still borderline high but we've gotten that under control.   My kidney function is still being monitored to make sure there  isn't any permanent damage.   I see that dr again next week and if everything is good, he won't need to see me for 6 months.

  • Bladder infection. Likely from catheter. On antibiotics.
  • I had the same thing....endometritis.  Penicilan by IV and found out I was allergic to penicilan, but it was the only drug that cured it, so they shot me through with benedryl.  You think you aren't supposed to sleep after having a baby, but I slept 11 hours so daddy had to take care of DD.

When I was in the hospital for my infection, they admitted me back onto the L&D floor so DD and DH could stay with me.  The first night, I slept for like 9 hours straight, when I woke up DH said he didn't have the heart to wake me to feed DD, I was nursing, so he gave her formula because her hysterical screaming wasn't waking me up!  I was out to the world!

  • I answered yes, in my incision. I had a yeast infection rash all round my incision for a couple weeks. It was awful. Ointment at home was all I needed.

However, I also developed PUPPS after delivery- maybe 1 week later. I literally itched from neck to knees. The yeast infection was the worst- it itched around my incision that I was afraid would open up if I scratched.

My incision finally healed totally at about 5.5 months. :/

With DS1- no problems at all. :)

  • I also had an infection after my c-section. I had high fevers after I left the hospital. I go in a few days later and after they had discharged me again my c-section bursted open all over the hospital entrance...it was the worst! Pus and blood squirted out of my incision like a faucet (so sorry for the TMI). Long story short I ended up in the hospital for a week leaving with a wound vac that had to be left on for about a month and a half. It was the worst experience but I always say better me than my son.
