Is your baby a cuddler?

My DD is not a cuddler at all. Is anyone else in the same boat? Do they get cuddley later on or is it a personality thing?

My DS loves to cuddle! Just lately he has started to put his head in the little spot on my shoulder/neck to snuggle right in and I love it!

Does your DD like to be worn at all or is it a general dislike of being too close?

  • DD only cuddles during our bedtime nursing session.  Otherwise she is wiggly and noncuddley.

  • Nope, not a cuddler...unless he's nursing, and even then he's squirmy!  Exploring the world is so much more fun than cuddling with mom.

  • Not a cuddler.  She pushes me away if I try to hug or wrap my arms around her.  She's super energetic and alert and not into affection (though she "kisses" me and gives me lots of smiles and laughs).  She likes being worn if we're getting from place to place or as a way to fall asleep, but she doesn't like to just hang out in the carrier (like while I'm being still).  I hear that there tends to be some gender correlations her.  Baby boys are snugglier than baby girls.

  • DS has no interest in cuddling.

He's way too busy being on the move. He takes bottles faster and faster just so he can get back to being busy. I'm pretty sad about it.

  • It depends - DS is cuddly when he's sleepy or nursing, but if he's awake he's wiggly and wants to either be on the floor, or being carried around.

I think it's partly a personality thing but also, our LOs are going through so much development right now and they're eager to explore their worlds. Once that settles down I bet we'll get some cuddliness back.

  • It's a personality thing.  DS1 begs to cuddle day and night.  He never let me put him down from the minute he was born, it made him a hard baby, he always wanted to snuggle to sleep.  Now he'll beg anyone to snuggle and will lay in my lap all day if I let him.  He's 2.5

DS2 is not a snuggler.  He's much more "busy" and wants to climb me.  He has no interest in rocking.

  • DD doesn't cuddle, and hasn't ever since she was born. She will tolerate being held, but if you try for too long she squirms wanting down. She definitely doesn't nuzzle in  and enjoy it lol. She's also very energetic which seems to be a common factor here with the other non-cuddlers. Part of me wishes she cuddled more (or atleast gave hugs and kisses), but part of me also loves how "independent" she is. I can't wait to see her as a toddler!

  • Depends on who it is but DD would let me hold and cuddle her all day. She wont do it with anyone else unless she is tired. Then she is ok with people she is familiar with.

  • I've found it's definitely a personality thing. I'm a mama of 4, 3 of them cuddlers, 1 not.

  • I think it's personality... my DS is a snuggler.  He curls into me and wraps himself around me while nursing, and nights like tonight when he has a tough time falling asleep, I'll go in and pull him out of his crib and put him on my shoulder.  He puts his head into my neck, sighs, coos and falls asleep... tonight it was 5 minutes.  he also loves being worn in a carrier.

My SIL's firstborn was a cuddler, but her second was not. I thought it was so weird after watching her with her first, wearing him and snuggling him to soothe him.  With her second, she would just set him in the middle of the living room floor and that was how he calmed down.  He just wanted/needed his space.
