Talk to me about your workout routine!

How do you fit in excercise with baby around?  I need to do a way, way, way better job of being active.  It's always been a struggle for me.  Our gym membership is expiring and we just can't justify renewing it.

So, I am looking for ideas of excercise to do with baby around.  Maybe some workout video recs?  What does your routine look like....when during the day do you manage to fit it in? Do you do any excercise with your baby?  I lurk on the workout check in occasionally....just trying to specifically figure out how to fit it in my day.

Re: Talk to me about your workout routine!

  • I work out at home. If the kids are awake then I wait for a time when they are both happy doing their thing. Although DD likes to try to copy me.

I add in squats and lunges around the house when I am babywearing DS.

  • I'm horrible at this. I don't exercise at all besides taking slow walks. My attitude is why work at it when I am just going to get pregnant again and lose it all again anyway. Oops.

  • Do you work or SAH?  Does your gym have DC?

I am starting to train for a half marathon.  Right now since I'm off for summer break, it's easy for me to work out.  I take LO jogging in the stroller or I can go to the gym and he goes to the little DC there.

When school starts up, it will be tougher.  My plan is to leave him at DC an extra hour 2 days a week and go to the gym before picking him up.  I might feel guilty about this, but I am reminding myself that when I work out, I am healthier and happier and it's better for him too.

  • You may think I'm crazy, but I work out at 5am.  I just joined a new gym (only $10 a month!) and it's the only time I can fit it in.  It's a no frills gym, so no child care.  I nurse A at 4:40, then I'm on my way out the door by 5.  I'm home by 6:20, and DH leaves for work at 6:30.  I am able to quickly get a shower and straighten up the house before DS gets up at 7.  DS isn't a great (or reliable) napper, so I can't count on squeezing a work out in during nap-time.

(Even before DS was born, I used to go the gym at 5 and exercise before going to work.  I'm a morning person, so it worked for me.  My whole day goes better when I work out in the morning.  But, now it's 9:30 and I'm ready for bed!!)

  • Right now I'm either walking/jogging with DS during the day or doing the 30-Day Shred during a nap or after he goes down for the night. As much as I hate to do it after he goes down for the night (at 8:30), I feel great after doing it and knowing I forced myself to do it. It's also one of the only times I KNOW I'll be able to get it all in without a wake up :-)

  • I work part time. I am not a morning person, so the early morning thing would not work so well for me....but go you, Keylime! DH is more than happy to take baby while I work out, but we also like to work out together. I'm nervous about the gym daycare. From what I've seen, im just not so sure about it.

  • I'm having a really hard time with this. With 2 kids, dh leaving for work at 445 am and not returning til 730-800 each night, no gyms with dc, no family close enough to drop them at, my work outs are sparse. I can't get motivated to work out at home, although we have plenty of dvds and equipment, I just don't get over 10 mins where both kids are satisfied at once. I know I need to try harder, but with limited options (no double stroller for walks, even!), its rough! :(

  • For me, it is all about the jogging stroller. It keeps me sane! I load LO up at nap time and away we trot. Today we went 5 miles and I felt such joy and freedom--so it is a great stress-reliever, too! Worth every penny!

  • Thankfully H went crazy over the last 6 months and basically setup a gym in our basement.  We have a treadmill, elliptical and various size weights.  I try to run outside when I can, but with the heat lately I've been doing more treadmill runs.  H and I take turns watching E while the other works out (or I go during my lunch the days I WFH and the nanny watches E).  On the weekends, we try to take E down with us in either the pnp or an exersaucer and H and I will workout together as long as E cooperates.  Sometimes he gives us 45min together, sometimes 15!

And I always try to take E with me on a daily walk with Rocky, it is a good workout just having him in my ergo.
