Swaddle Blankets

We are planning to swaddle often during the first few weeks-months.  We got some Aden and Anais swaddle blankets and few other kinds.  I have friends who swear by Miracle Blanket though - - for those that have swaddled, should we get some Miracle Blankets?  Are they really that much better? Or will the A&A ones work just as well?

Re: Swaddle Blankets

  • We're getting both, especially because I've heard the A&A blankets are good for more than swaddling (burping, shielding from the sun, nursing cover, etc).

  • Many babies learn to break out of a regular blanket swaddle very quickly. Mine could by the time she got home from the hospital. That's why products like the Miracle Blanket and SwaddleMe are useful. I have the SwaddleMe and it's been great for my daughter. I don't have a Miracle Blanket so I can't speak to which is better, but I think getting one of them is essential.

I like my A&A blankets as a nursing cover or carseat/stroller cover. I love that they are light and breathable, and huge.

  • We really liked the A&A ones for swaddling - all the others we had didn't work as well. The nurses at the hospital showed me how to get the swaddle really tight and secure, so we had no issues with DD breaking out of the swaddle. I'd wait and see if your baby likes to be swaddled before going out and buying something like a Miracle Blanket since I think about half of my friends' kids hated being swaddled.
  • we love the a&a for everything except swaddling. we didn't try the miracle blanket until she was a couple of weeks old, and we were kicking ourselves for waiting. Really is a miracle! :)

This exactly. A+A blankets were no match for LO. We loved the Miracle Blanket and Halo swaddle sleep sacks. Now that we double swaddle, we use the A+A blankets with another blanket inside.

I love the A+A blankets and use them to cover the car seat, as a light blanket when we're out (there's always one in our diaper bag), etc.

  • The MB was the only thing that my son couldn't break out of. He was pulling up by the time we stopped swaddling (7 months) and he still couldn't break out.

  • I loved the A+A for swaddling (and still use them all the time even though we don't swaddle anymore) but family that was helping out had trouble getting a good swaddle with any blanket.  I recommend the swaddlemes - they are easy for everyone :)

  • We used all the swaddles we got a lot. The a+a although not really for swaddling. We used the swaddleme the most and then when she got bigger changed to the miracle blanket. I resisted the miracle blanket for a long time because the thought of pinned arms made me feel panicky. But man she slept great in it!!

I am forgetting one...we used it a lot too and I can't remember the name! Oh wait, it was the halo swaddle. That one was awesome too, really easy.

Also we swaddled for 6 months.

  • I got a hand me down swaddler no idea of brand that I liked, but I did NOT like the halo sleep sack.  Didn't seem to warm to me.

We swaddle using SwaddleMe.  I'm not as big of a fan of the Halo, but that's mainly because it's freaking 100+ degrees and the SwaddleMe ones are cooler for my LO than the Halo.  I love A+A, but not for swaddling.  And, I'll add, my LO did NOT enjoy swaddling for weeks.  He HATED it whenever we tried with him awake & happy, when we tried with him drowsy, when I tried with him upset & screaming, when I tried with him already asleep... So I didn't swaddle from weeks 0-5.  But something happened at Week 5, and now he will tolerate it.  It does help him stay asleep longer.
