Babies: 9 - 12 Months

remotes for babies

So my 9 month old is obsessed with our phones, TV remotes, ipods, etc. I could have all of her toys laid out in front of her but somehow she finds my phone if it is near. I've looked on Amazon and there are a ton of baby remotes and phones. Before I go hunting through all those, does anyone have any recommendations? I think she likes the ones that light up, but thats not necessary.

Re: remotes for babies

  • My LO is the same way. We have direct tv and a few extra remotes so we just give him one of thoese. It works most of the time but I think he knows its not the one we use, so he still tries for the real one. I think it's more of "I want to have what you have" thing

  • My son also loves the remotes and phones. He hated the toy ones. we took the batteries out of an extra phone and an extra remote and gave that to him, he loved it for a while. Although now he has learned how to turn up the volume on the tv with the real remote, so no longer likes his. Also learned how to turn on the real phone and speaker, so again, no longer cares for his.

  • Yeah, we bought LO a FP phone b/c he'd always go after ours. He's play with it for a little while, but he'll still go after ours when given the choice.

  • Have you seen the Fisher Price Fun 2 Learn Smart Phone?  This thing is ridiculously real looking, and it's a toy!  I have it on DS's wish list for the holidays already!

  • We have the FP learning phone too.  DS loves it, but still goes after the real ones.

I don't offer him an old "real" remote, just because it looks like a real one(because it is) and I don't want to confuse him that he can have that one and not the other real remotes, KWIM?

  • We have a universal remote so I keep that one out of her reach and took one that came with a TV and took the batteries out.  She loves it.  I have an Otterbox for my iPhone so I let her play with it most of the time.

  • We bought DS a toy remote from target but he still prefers our remotes so I just take the batteries out and let him play with it.

  • as PP said, I just gave LO an old remote that actually looks exactly like the one we have. We got our cable boxes switched and they took the old box, but left the remote. LO loves her remote and will press buttons. I hide the remote and when she pushes buttons, I change things using the real remote....she thinks she is doing it lol
