when nobody in the house wants to/can cook, what do you guys do?
we live right in the middle of downtown and stone's throw away from tons of cheap eating establishments. some healthy, some not. we probably eat this way at least twice a week, which includes lunches. otherwise, we microwave trader joe's meals. we'd starve without trader joe's!
(fun fact: the first trader joe's in the country is down the street from us!)
Re: when you don't want to cook...
Roasted chicken from the grocery store
Take out - subway (veggie delight for me), pizza (Famoso, yum)
Take something out from the freezer
* I am more inclined to have "fend for yourself" nights and just eat raw fruits/veggies/tortilla and peanut butter...
I pretty much always cook something, and it is rare that I want to! I am not a good cook at all.
Sometimes we get Chinese take out or go out to a restaurant. I LOVE going out to eat. It is my favorite thing to do, however it is not very compatible with my weight loss goals!
My Blog
I usually make extra food and freeze the left overs. I have at least 5-10 meals in the freezer at any time. Then, when I don't want to cook, I just grab something from the freezer, throw it in the oven, maybe steam some veggies and call it good.
(Once A Month Mom has some great non-casserole, relatively healthy, freezer-friendly recipe ideas)
On "those" nights I live on frozen Indian from Trader Joe's. Yum. Sometimes I'll just have a bowl of yogurt and granola.
Twice a year we might get Chinese. Maybe pizza once or twice a year. Every other month when DH has a night off we chose to eat out at a restaurant - but usually we make better food for cheaper at home.
We will be getting a Trader Joe's in Austin next year and I am already excited! I have never been to one and everybody loves it, so I am curious to see what it is all about!
On the nights I don't want to cook I usually make frozen pizza or a soup or we just throw chicken on the grill. Sometimes we go to Papa Murphy's and get a pizza there We don't go out to eat very often anymore, especially not for dinner, since Alex's bedtime is so close.
I text MH and ask him to pick up something on his way home from work (2-3x a month). We dont go out for dinner anymore because DD goes to bed between 630-7pm.

I kind of got used to not cooking when DH and I were both in grad school and were barely ever home the same nights together. We have lots of "fend for yourself" nights, like tonight.
I had cereal.
DH's dinner? - Salad, a banana, leftovers from last night when I actually cooked, Taquitos, a bowl of cereal, and hummus and pita bread. Seriously. How do ANY of those things sound good to have together?
