I'm kind of panicked, WWYD

We were all getting ready to go to the pool and I ran upstairs to use the bathroom. Came down a minute, if that, to see that LO took some bites out of one of DS's pool noodles. I couldn't find any pieces, so he definately swallowed them. I'm freaking out thinking they could cause an obstruction and we should take him to the er, DH thinks I'm highly overreacting and he'll just poop them out. Thoughts?

  • I'd freak too and my H would say the same thing. Hah

I would just call the pedi and see what they say, they may just tell you to watch him carefully.  Who knows, maybe you'll find the pieces later or he will infact poop them out, if they were going to cause some kind of problem I'd think he would already be choking. Are they non toxic??

  • he probably will poop them out but I'd still call my pedi and get her input.

  • Thanks ladies. Geeze, I'm overtired and paranoid I guess. I just called for safe measure. He said they are harmless and said as long as he was breathing fine it was no big deal. DH is laughing at my almost in tears hysterics thinking LO would need pool noodle surgically removed on this lovely Wednesday evening.

  • I feel like if my DH and I were in your shoes we would have the same reaction. I would be freaking out, while my husband would be cool as a cucumber. I think to do the obvious land watch him, but in the end I think he will be just fine.

Although this will be a funny story to tell later.... Haha a bit out of a noodle is a funny image in my head... Maybe not so funny for you right now!

  • DS#1 did the same thing when he was about 14 months old.  I felt the same way...panic but DH told me just to calm down he'd be fine.  Sure enough, he pooped them out by the next morning.  He had taken what looked like a big chunk but probably in little bite sized pieces that were easy to pass.  If you don't see anything in the next few bowl movements though, I'd call the pedi.
