Faint BFP lines after a week...thoughts?

Hi ladies,

I already have a call into my doctor to see if they'll test my betas but am wondering if any of you have any experience with this...

I got my BFP last Wednesday on a Wondfo and tested again on Friday with an Answer test. The wondfo was faint but the Answer test was quite obvious. So being the POAS addict that I am I retested again yesterday with both an Answer and a Wondfo...the Wondfo still looked faint (if not fainter than) the first one and the Answer looked slightly lighter but still a definite line. I googled this and it looks like it could be a CP or MC but then I took another wondfo this morning and although its still not as dark as the control line its definitely darker than the other 2 tests (I figure I am ~20 dpo if that matters).

Has anyone had very light tests and a good outcome? I had a MC in the fall and am not sure if now I am hypersensitive to everything or if it really may be happening again. Thanks for your input!

I would try a digi and see what it says. GL!

  • I had a super duper faint line at 13 dpo and like you, I am paranoid and still peeing on sticks every other day.  My line has gotten darker with each stick, and this morning (19 dpo) was dark enough (not the same color as the test line, but very pink) that I will stop peeing on them.  Because of your previous m/c I would call your doc and ask to have betas taken today and then again in a couple of days to check for doubling.

Don't try the digi!  It may just make you more upset.  I did this at 15dpo and while my wondfos were faintly positive, the digi was negative and I had my betas drawn that same day and they were at 47.

  • Thanks ladies! The nurse I spoke to said its probably because the tests were taken in the evening and that I should be using FMU...at this point I feel like that shouldn't make a difference but whatev! She scheduled me for betas this morning so keep your fingers crossed for me!

  • With my first child my lines never got darker.  You had to turn the test in the light to see them.  Pregnancy tests don't indicate the level of hcg just that it is there so the lines getting darker isn't a sign that the pregnancy is progressing well and vice versa.

  • and different brands and each test itself can varry. I took an Answer and a digital the same day (14dpo) and the answer was really faint, but the digital was positive. Some brands are easier than others to read

  • I don't want to be a debbie downer, or scare you, but this could also mean a chemical pregnancy.  I realize that at 5 weeks, hcg levels are all over the place, but typically at 5 weeks it shouldn't matter what time the test it taken.  I'll be thinking of you.

  • I'm sorry.  I was just going to say that it sounds pretty much exactly like my 4 m/c.  All in the 4-5w range.  Since you've had a previous m/c, have you looked into things that might cause them?  I've read that a zinc deficiency might cause them, and I'm wondering if that was what caused my first 3 (all in a 7mo period).  If you have a short LP, which can also be a big cause of m/c, look into Vitex.  I actually took Vitex this cycle because my period was so messed up.  I had my ppaf at 15mo post partum, then I had two more short cycles.  My LP only ended up being 4-5days each time (and I had a few 8-10 day LP's during my 7mo miscarriage period).
