High-Risk Pregnancy

Joining you...

My name is Karyn and I officially became a high-risk mama yesterday after I ended up in the ER with pretty severe bleeding and some cramping.  The baby's HR is still a strong 172 and my hcg levels are 54,000.

The ER doc was unable to determine the nature of the bleeding but due to my age (38) and my history (was on strict bed rest with my first starting at 10 weeks) he but me on bed rest until I can follow up with my OB.  I did speak briefly with my OB and she confirmed that she is moving me into the high-risk camp and wants to see me ASAP (which I hope means today).

I am very nervous regarding this whole experience.  I lost two previous pregnancies and I am trying so hard to stay positive.

So...that's my story and hello. :)

Re: Joining you...

  • Hello. :) Sorry to hear about the bleeding....scary, I know! I know you said they don't know the cause of your bleeding, but I wanted to share with you that I had spotting everyday for about 10 weeks and had about 7-8 red bleeding episodes (2 of which were very severe). My bleeding was due to a bicornuate uterus and subchorionic hematoma. And so far baby is still here and doing well and I haven't had any bleeding/spotting for several weeks. So just wanted to share that, while bleeding is super scary, there can be situations where it doesn't mean worst case will happen. Good luck to you!

  • Thank you for sharing that.  I did some research last night and everything seemed so grim.  I need to remember that Dr. Google is not always my friend.
  • Hi Karyn, welcome! I had some severe bleeding at 12 weeks but everything was okay after that. Turns out i have a Marginal placenta (its very close to my cervix) so maybe that could be causing your bleeding? I'm currently on bed rest now for preterm labor symptoms (lost baby #2 last year due to PTL) so I know the bed rest routine!

  • Hi! Thanks for the welcome.  I see my OB tomorrow for another round of u/s and tests.  I am hoping that she has some answers for me.

Any tips for a fellow bed rest mama?  Yesterday I caught up on homework and wrote a paper (I'm working on my masters), but I am struggling today.
