If I had any risk factors where my doctors advised it, I would take it into consideration. But unless we are talking about a potential serious/terminal diagnosis or a diagnosis that would require immediate intervention then no, I would not even consider it.

I am absolutely not comfortable with the risks that come with an amnio or CVS. That is why we declined all the other optional testing (NT etc)... because those tests all deal in 'likelihoods' and not definitive answers. And I am not willing to get the definitive answer after those tests. But yeah, the amnio isnt on the table.

This is not a yes/no question for me. As of right now, no because results so far have been good. However, if at any point in my pregnancy something came up where my doctor advised me to get an amnio, I probably would. The risk factors are low enough that I'm comfortable with them.
Also, amnios are used for more than genetic defects. Many women end up getting them later in pregnancy due to pre-term labor, etc to determine baby's maturity to deliver.
Absolutely no. I wasn't comfortable with the thought even before we started talking about possibilities of genetic disorders. Nothing would change for us. We didn't have the NT test either. I got a blood test and came back with being a carrier for only 1 thing that was so random my OB said he had never heard of it. Such a random disorder that they didn't even want to do the blood test for my DH to see if there would be a 25% chance of LO having the defect.

All of this. While it is a personal decision, I firmly believe that until you are in that situation (where you are being told that there is a problem and they are recommending a course of action) you have no idea how you would react.

Absolutely this! We don't have any obvious risk factors, so we haven't done any of the genetic testing on LO. We have done blood tests on DH and I, but that's it. We didn't do any with DS either.
I was informed last week we have a 1 in 40 chance of down syndrome. I know the results won't change anything, but I can't have that looming over my head. We will be getting an amniocentesis in 2 weeks.

This. I have no risk factors for genetic problems and have gotten absolutely no tests done yet - my OBs haven't even brought it up. I am having my first ultrasound and triple screen at 18 weeks, as is their standard procedure.
