QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink?

Updates or vents?

Edit to add new QOTW.

Re: PG>35 Weekly Check-In

  • First of all, I want to pass along my sympathies to Karenandmark on the passing of Sean.  Continued T&P for you and your entire family.

QOTW:  I love lemonade.  The new frozen lemonade from Tim Hortins is super good (Timmy's is a HUGE coffee/donut franchise in Canada and is in some northern states).  My fave summer food is probaby fresh summer fruit (berries, watermelon, cherries and nectarines in particular).

Updates:  I had my a/s on Thurday.  Baby is looking fantastic and was very co-operative in showing the goods so we could learn what team we are on.  It's a boy and we are thrilled.  He is still measuring ahead by at least a week.

  •  I am also saddened to read about Sean's passing - I didn't get to know Karen since her graduation from TTC>35 came about the time I started posting there.  Shocking news to say the least - more T&P coming your way.

Yay for my first check in on this board!

    your screen name - Gundy21
    first name (optional) - Kristen
due date - estimated 3/11/13 (based on OPKs, was on a break from temping last month)
sex of baby (if known, or will it be a surprise?) - we plan on finding out

QOTW - Love drinking sun tea in the summer.  And I love picking up things at the local farmers markets.  The drought here has not been kind to them, tho - crop quality and quanties are really down., but I buy what I can to support local small businesses.

UPDATES - First appointment is set for 7/23 - will be about 7w.  I have been battling a major head cold and that plus all day MS and fatigue have been bad.  Glad the heatwave finally broke here - 100F+ temps and all of that made for a miserable me (and DH).

Welcome and thanks for joining us.  I have added you to the check-in for next week!  You are our first March 2013 mama.  I followed your TTC journey a bit on TTC>35 and am so glad to see you get your BFP.  Here's hoping the next few weeks fly by and that your 7w appt is here before you know it.  As for the heat and nausea/m/s, I hear you.  Thank the good Lord for a/c, I have to say and if your m/s gets to be too much to bear, be sure to ask your doc about it.  I had horrible nausea through 1st tri and while I was never sick, I felt like I was on a boat in rough seas all the time.  My doc prescribed something for me and it really took the edge off.  I hope you are feeling better soon.

  • It is my first check in too.

Screen name: Country Girl in the City

    Due Date: March 8, 2013

Sex: too early to know but I can't wait to find out.

QOTW: Favorite food and drink - I like water infused with lemmon.  I liked it with cucumber before I was pregnant but now I can't stand it.  I was a vegetarian for 20 years.  I was advised that it would be easier to get pregnant if I started eating meat by many people involved in my case.  Now I can't get enough ribs on the grill.

Updates or vents - I tried to start a cross stitch crib cover.  The kit matches our nursery theme.  All of the floss was knotted in a big ball when I opened the kit and I could not tell any of the colors apart.  They should not do things like that to hormonal pregnant women.  DH had to figure out which color was which.  The kid might graduate from college before I get this done at the rate that I am going.

Funny you put it that way - I race sailboats on Lake Michigan and was out on the water at 7DPO and a hurting puppy with nausea already.  Was supposed to sail on Friday and tonight - not happening with this head cold!

Welcome CGITC!  I've been waiting for your post.  I am so glad you have joined us.  Ribs on the grill sounds super yummy.   I cross-stitch too, I generally do counted rather than stamped cross stitch and buy the pattern and then my floss separately.  I did 3 x/s for artwork in DSs nusery.  They are sesame street themed.  The large one is 11x14 and has cookie monster, elmo and oscar on it.  There are 4 -5x7s. I only got the Elmo and Bert & Ernie one's done before DS arrived.  Since then I have finished the Big Bird and am just finishing up the Oscar one.  I will add these to the nursery for little man #2.  When you get your crib cover done you should PIP.

I usually do counted but I saw this kit that matched my nursery theme exactly and it was before I started my last cycle so I saw it as a sign.  I did precious moments stockings for DH, our dog, and for me.  Now I have to do one for the baby before Christmas 2013.  I can't start that until we know if it is a boy or a girl.  I certainly know now why the kit I bought was on sale.

  • QOTW: My favorite summer drink right now is strawberry lemonade (or raspberry lemonade) - I cannot get enough!!  My favorite foods are anything 'fresh' as in veggies/fruit - all kinds.

Updates: We are Team Pink!!  So excited to add a little girl to our family!  We had a scare a few weeks ago when I was cramping/spotting - emergency u/s showed a 'thick placenta' which either carries risks or can mean nothing at all... had f/u u/s on 7/5 - still thick, but everything else looks good with the baby - next dr's appt is 7/16 so will talk to ob about next steps then and trying not to worry in between.

    Lemonade...isn't it great!  Love.

Congrats on Team Pink, and your little girl.  Happy shopping, I'm sure it will be fun finding a take home outfit!  As for bleeding issues, I had some myself at 14.5-16w.  I know how scary it can be.  I have never heard of thick placenta before, although an OB/GYN I had at one point told me I have a "bulky uterus", whatever the hell that means?

Summer salads (pasta, potato, coleslaw), yum, sign me up!  As for feeling huge and uncomfortable, I am afraid of how I will feel at 36w, considering I am huge now and I am already waddling a bit when I take my first few steps walking.  The pelvic pain this time around is much worse than with DS.

After all of this watermelon talk, I had to call DH and ask him if he cut up the watermelon for me so that I cold eat it as soon as I get home.  He did not.  I almost started to cry.

  • QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink?

Well before I was preggo my fav summer drink was ice cold Bud Light Lime while hanging at the pool with the family and friends. But now I'm happy with some fresh cold lemonade :) And FRUIT! I love watermelon and peaches and strawberries. In fact, I am inhaling some watermelon and strawberries as a snack at my desk right now ;)

    Updates or vents?

Now that I'm in week 11 and fast approaching 2nd Tri I have had a heart to heart with my body and this baby to tell them I'm tired of this MS stuff! I AM going to feel better. I went to the gym today and I DO feel better. Also DH and I decided not to do any of the screening tests. We did sequential screen with LO #1 but DH was against it, this time he gets his way. We wouldn't terminate either way so we are going to put our faith in God and pray that this baby is perfectly healthy!

First and foremost, my condolences to Karenandmark on the passing of Sean.  It was a heart wrenching post to read, let alone live through it. My thoughts and prayers to their family.

QOTW: My obsession has become lemon water, not lemonade, just lemon water. I can drink 2-3 large glasses a day. ( I mean LARGE- lol) Beats my soda addiction, though!  Smile

Update: We had a 3D U/S done to find out that we are having a boy! I tried waiting, but when it was offered, I couldn't resist!

I hate drinking water, so lemon water is MUCH better, IMO.  Congrats on being Team Blue.  Boys are a ton of fun, which you will soon find out.

I had an unexpected U/S today and that was nice.  I got to hear the HB and see it this time and it was amazing!  I also scheduled my NT scan for next Friday so I am looking forward to that.

In other news, I am feeling lots better.  I am still super tired but the "I'm on a boat"/gag feeling has pretty much gone away.  That was a rough three weeks.  Hopefully it's gone for good:)

    AL always welcome!

  • Benoitfan - congrats on your boy! As much as I want a girl (if we go for another), part of me would love for it to be another boy so they can be best buds and cohorts in crime (preferably NOT crimes again mom)!

QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink? Watermelon! Between the 2 of us, DH and I can put away one of the medium-sized seedless watermelons in about 2-3 days. So good. To drink, I love a white sangria. Unfortunately there is none of that for me this summer. I will make up for it next year when LO is here and I'm through with nursing!

QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink?

Well before I was preggo my fav summer drink was ice cold Bud Light Lime while hanging at the pool with the family and friends. But now I'm happy with some fresh cold lemonade :)And FRUIT!

Ah...a nice ice-cold corona with lime would be pretty great right about now.  There's always next summer, I guess!

It is great that you can just put it in the hands of God and be comfortable with that.  I wouldn't terminate either but a special needs child would put a strain on my marriage that I am not sure it could withstand.  I also needed to know just because certain special needs deliveries are better done at hospitals with higher level NICUs than we have here and I would want to deliver at the location best for my baby.

My continued T&Ps to Karenannmark. I can't even begin to imagine the horror she must be going though.

    Benoitfan, congrats on another boy!!!

Now, me: Boo. I'm not listed on the June MomsCrying Veronica Lynn, 7 lbs, 8oz, 19 inches. 11:47 am.

Favorite summer drink is water with lemon or limes.  I am digging the pinterest ice cubes, where you put the fruit inside the ice.  Kinda fun.  As for food, I just like to use the grill and use it as much as we can.

Updates: I am pretty sure that I don't have PPD this time.  I thought it was coming, but then my mom let me get a "decent" night sleep last night (she stayed up to give V her midnight feeding and stayed with her until 3 am) so I got to sleep in bed with DH.  It really did my heart and soul good.  Veronica won't sleep in her crib at all, and rolls everywhere.  I am not yet comfortable leaving her in there while I go to bed, but I've got to get over that and fast.  I only have help until the end of the week and then it's all me. (gulp!)

Joi, I have no idea how that was missed.  I swear I added you to my list, but I must have not saved it somehow.  I'll be sure to fix that for next week.

Glad to hear you think you are free from PPD this time around. I can not imagine how hard that would be.  Thanks for sticking around, we love having you here.

Yay for the unexpected u/s.  GL on your NT scan next week.  Also, glad to hear your nausea is easing up.  Mine was pretty much gone by 12w, so hopefully that is true for you too.

Thanks so much.  You pretty much summed up my thoughts on the sex of the baby the 2nd time around.  I would have been thrilled with a girl, but there is something very special about brothers.

Watermelon is great in the summer.  And I get it about missing your alcoholic bevie of choice...lemonade without the gin, is just not quite as good somehow.  Oh well, next summer, I guess.

  • QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink?

Favorite summer food? I'm not even sure right now. I'm a little nuts I suppose (at least according to DH) I seem to like soups when the weather gets hot. and salads. My favorite drinks = margaritas, which I'm very fortunate to have available sans tequila.

    Updates or vents?

I miss sleep. That is all...

  • QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink?

Favorite summer food? I'd have to say watermelon or strawberries.  So delish I can eat a whole carton of strawberries at one time.

    Updates or vents?

I have my 1 hr Glucose test this afternoon, not super pumped about that but crossing my fingers I pass and that is the end of it.  I have developed an itch rash on my belly and legs that is driving me BSC, but will ask the Dr about it today and hopefully find out what it is and get something for it.  Fingers Crossed.

  • QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink?

Berries (raspberries, blackberries, boysenberries).  I would say strawberries, but in SoCal, those are more of a spring food.  Also, corn on the cob.  And vegetarian hot dogs on the grill.

    Updates or vents?

I failed my 3 hour GTT 2 weeks ago and am STILL waiting for my insurance company to approve a referral to a nutritionist.  As of yesterday, they had denied the request, and now my OB is following up with them to find out why.  What if I was a moron who wasn't involved in my own healthcare and didn't research the GD diet on my own?  What if I had just kept eating crap?  It's bad enough that I am not monitoring blood sugar levels, but geez.  The sort of lackadaisical approach even my OB's office is having to this is starting to disturb me.

  • Hi everyone!  This is my first check in on this board, and I'm thrilled to be here.  I will be 39 next month and I am pregnant with my first.  We were TTC for about 7 months and finally it seems to have stuck.  I live in Manhattan.

     your screen name: Katieknitsny

sex of baby (if known, or will it be a surprise?) Surprise!

     QOTW:

Any Mexican food! With margaritas!  Nachos!  Yum!

     Rants/Updates:

My first prenatal appointment is scheduled for next Tuesday.  I should be at 6 weeks by then. I am not sure what to expect.  I want to find a midwife, but I'm going to wait until after the first appointment to make sure I'm on track.  I worry that my dr. will determine that I am "high risk" because of my age, and if she does that, I will be barred from the only birth center in the city.

QOTW: What is your favourite summer food and drink? Cold vodka drinks. LOL I guess I will settle for some decafe iced coffee from Starbux w/ 2 shots of coconut syrup and skim milk. :) Updates or vents? Got a +HPT on Monday. Cautiously excited, as I had a CP last month. I can't believe we have another + test! It took us 3+ years to get PG with DD, so once we pulled the goalie, we were expecting a tough time again. Guess "they" are right when they say sometimes a PG "fixes" fertility issues. My first appointment is next Tuesday. Looking forward to meeting some other 35+ women. I'm currently 37, and will be 38 when this baby is born.
