Questions at 1 year appointment

We have our 1 year visit coming up on Friday.  If you have already been for yours or have a list of questions ready, would you mind sharing?

For whatever reason, I feel like this appointment is a big one and I don't want to be on the way home thinking why did I not think to ask that.  That's normally what happens.  It's like I panic and lose all brain function while the doctor is in the room Tongue Tied

TIA!

Re: Questions at 1 year appointment

  • I feel like I never ask any questions a my appointments. My pedi is very laid back. She does a thorough exam but doesn't really offer much advice about day to day care unless I specifically ask. Even then, she has very laid back advice. I usually do my own research (with a little help discussing things with fellow Bumpies), and I make my decisions on my own. I see her as someone to ask questions specifically for medical advice but not day to day care. That being said, if I were going to make a list of questions, I might ask about the transition to WCM, if multivitamins are recommended, about any lab work that might need to be done (iron levels for example), make sure you have updated dosing for Tylenol based on latest weight, any questions or concerns you have about milestones. Those are just a few off the top of my head.

  • General questions I will be asking are double checking medication doses (Tylenol, Motrin, and Benadryl), any labs that need to be done, and what milestones he will most likely reach before our 15 month appointment.

Since he has milk issues we will also be delving in to whether to do allergy testing or not as we have seen a couple questionable reactions to other foods recently.  We will also discuss any foods to continue avoiding.

If you plan to wean from formula or BM you could ask their opinion on that process as well.

  • Like PP said, I'm pretty laid back and so is my pedi, although she's very thorough we don't do a whole lot of asking questions. Most stuff is either common sense or available for research online.

We have been lucky to avoid any real health concerns but I will be asking about some dry patches he's got on his back that have popped up recently as well as new dosage info for medications.

I find it helpful for my own health issues to keep a little notebook on me to write down any weird stuff thats happened that I may want to ask about because once you're in there you tend to forget thigns and something may be important to a diagnosis. I do the same thing for DS now, although luckily there isn't much to report.
