Night terrors...

Are they possible at 3m? I had them through age 10 or so and my parents said they were terrible. They said I sounded like I was being kidnapped. Anyways, Colin started screaming in his sleep something terrible. I've never heard such a scary cry in my life but he is 100% asleep. He will wimper in his sleep about once per night for his paci but this was different. Not even his paci was comforting. I was even able to do a dream feed for the first time ever.

Re: Night terrors...

  • I have no clue, but that sounds so sad. Poor baby. I had them for years, half way through the night I always slept at the foot of my mom's bed when I was little. I had dreams that my dog was satan and planning to kill my whole family, things like that, but the earliest I remember them I was at 2 1/2 year old.

Yep. I used to sleep walk too. There were a few episodes where I ended up outside. I'm now reading it CAN happen thiearlier. I'm devastated for him. I don't remember my night terrors but I do know it made it impossible to have sleepovers. lr. I hope this was a fluke. At what age did you get over yours!?

Don't worry, I mess up all the time since I'm mostly on here from my phone too. I was like 10 or 11. I still had them sometimes, but not like I did. Oh, then I had insomnia starting in middle school. I finally got some Ambien when I was 19, but that made me hallucinate and it was from my night terrors from when I was little, it was crazy. The sleep walking is scary, DH's best friend growing up was on a family vacation in France and his brother sleep walked right off the balcony and died when he was 12 or so. It is some scary stuff!!

Oh snap! Apparently I would just run around my front yard like I was nutso. My pare to would chase me. Eventually learned to just let me run til I collapsed. Finally they put child safety locks on the doors too. I really hope this isn't the start of crazyness for Colin. I'll feel so bad and guilty if it is.

  • my best friend's little girl had night terrors when she was about 5 months old. She is now 2 and they have long since stopped - i think she had them 3 times and that was it. she said thatnursing her daughter without waking her up was the best thing to calm her down.

i hope thatthis is a one off for you guys.

  • I'm not sure how early they can start, but I know DH had them as a young kid. That has happened once to jake too, but we picked him up while it was happening because it was in the day during a nap. He had the most petrified look on his face. It was so sad. Hopefully it was just a one time thing for both of our boys.

  • This happened to DS twice in a row 2 weeks ago. DH and I both were literally out of bed in .02 seconds because we were freaking out. Both times it was so sudden and terribly scary sounding. I just picked him up and rocked him and he would eventually stop. The first time it took him a little while to wake up and calm down. So sad!

  • Wow, I didn't realize they could start this soon, our LO has that same thing happen to him too. Out of nowhere, mid sleep - he lets out a loud cry or two, then goes quiet to sleep again. :(
