I'd been having trouble breathing for almost a week now and finally called my GP. She saw me, thought it was probably my allergies, but to be safe ran some blood work. Of course, the blood work came back positive and they needed to do a CT to rule out a pulmonary embolism.
I felt like I didn't have a choice. If there was something wrong we could catch it, but what were the risks? Then, if I didn't and I did have a PE, what were my options? In the end I went for it, the staff was great. They covered my abdomen with two protective sheets and the scan was only for my chest, but ugh, what a choice. Oh and the CT was negative, so that's a huge plus.
Anyone else had to have a CT while pregnant OR know anything about the medical field? I'm just paranoid and googling will only freak me out I'm sure.
Re: CT while pregnant?
I don't have knowledge or experience, but a PE is very serious, and I would've done the same thing. So glad it came back fine!
Don't google. That's always my advice for pretty much any medical question. Just don't google.
I think it kind of becomes a risk/benefit ratio thing. If you did have a PE, the chance of you having major problems from it would be worse than anything the CT scan would have done to you. And since they shielded your abdomen, they did everything they could to protect the baby.
I agree with PP, just drink lots of fluids because the contrast is excreted by your kidneys, but if you have no kidney problems you shouldn't have issues with the contrast.
I'm glad everything is okay. There's no reason to freak out now.
Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
