2+ moms to be - double strollers

What do you have/what do you plan on getting?

I would LOVE to get a City Select, but I don't know if DH will be okay with spending $600 on a stroller.  I really wish we had gotten it for DD and then just bought the 2nd seat now.

Oh, if I could go back in time...

  • I have no clue yet, I don't want to spend a lot b/c I'm not sure how into the stroller my toddler will be.  I have the city mini now and LOVE it!!!  I'm thinking of getting a sit and stand at first and maybe trying to sell my city mini and getting the city mini double

I hear you.  How old is your toddler?

I actually don't use the stroller too much now, so that's another reason why spending a ton of money doesn't make sense.  But I love the versatility of the City Select.

Right now I have a Maclaren that we keep in my car and use the most.  I also have a Graco travel system stroller that we keep in the garage and use for walks around the block.  Oh, and I have a Snap 'n Go that we got when we moved.  Once we got that, we rarely used the travel system stroller.

So many people warned me not to get it, but I was stubborn and had to have it.  Oh well.

  • I was always waiting until I needed one to buy one and you know what, I never did.  Honestly there has been maybe once or twice where I needed one over the past 15 months.  It didn't justify the cost of the double.  I wore Josie in the Ergo (with the infant insert) if I needed Will in the stroller.  Nowadays Will walks while I push Josie (or they're in a cart).

My summer double "stroller" is my radio flyer wagon!  :)

I have a Moby and an Ergo and will definitely wear LO a lot.  You're right that I probably shouldn't spend a crapload of money on a stroller since DD will be 1 month shy of 3 when LO gets here.

I NEED a wagon!  I want one so bad, but DH keeps holding out on me.  Grr.

  • Bought my City Elite from Craigslist, new, but the previous mama ended up buying a 2011 model. So, I got her 2010 for a huge discount, still in the box.  I like Baby Jogger so much that we will get a City Select, and probably keep the Elite for times when we need two strollers (going in two different directions in the same place -- rare occasion, but not ready to part with the Elite).

We have an UppaBaby G-Luxe for quick mall trips.  I wish THAT was made in a double.  It's fantastic!  (Our DD is almost 2.)

I've been wondering if I'll really need one. We actually have two now, one is technically a jogger and the other is just a nice umbrella stroller. I'm thinking I'll rarely be out with both of them alone (at first), and if I am it will be somewhere that has a cart. I also plan on wearing LO #2. I think I may wait and see if there's a real need.

  • My only worry is if LO falls asleep in the car seat.  Then I'd hate to wake him/her up just to transfer into the carrier.  But maybe that would be a good thing for him/her to get used to!  DD was never a flexible sleeper.

  • And just for reference, Will was 23 months old when Josie was born.  :)

  • When we had #2 we got the bugaboo frog and got the wheeled board for our 3-yr-old to ride on behind.    Now with this one we are getting the Britax B-Ready.  Amazon has it on sale and this month you get a free cars eat, bassinet or 2nd set attachment.   I love our bugaboo but this is a good deal and we can attach the carseat at the bottom if our #2 still needs to sit.
  • I will wear our new LO as much as possible, so I have no need for a double.  I just stopped wearing 17mo DS more than 75% of the time recentling.  I am hoping to wear this LO over a year as well.

My friend used to work for Britax.  I'm so sad she left only because she had a FAB discount!

  • I'm glad you asked this! I was wondering what everyone else was doing. I am on the fence about this.

My DD will be 2.5 when this baby is born and she already rarely tolerates the stroller...so i think a sit and stand might be a good option for us for long trips, however there is no back so she wouldn't have the option to fall asleep... but I don't plan to buy one until after the baby is born and we see what we really need

She 19 months old now and will be almost 2 1/2 when the new baby arrives.  If I was planning on a third kid I would make the investment in a good stroller but we are done after this one so I don't want to spend too much.  There are some really nice strollers out there for under $300.  I'm going to do some research and wait a little longer so I get a better idea of what my daughter is like

I have no idea what we're going to get! I'd like to get something that has the option for the carrier to be dropped in. We used a snap & go almost exclusively for my DD and now have a hand me down jogger and a full sized stroller. We've been using one of those Step2 cars this summer, though. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish we never got the full sized and just got a really good lightweight umbrella.

  • I have a Graco Quattro Tour Duo.  I got it in 08 when I was pg with #3.  I always wear baby for the first 9-12m, I don't put them in the stroller until they start wanting to be in it.  But I did use the back seat as a changing station more than once.  I got it because I was extremely paranoid about having more kids then hands, so I wanted my older ones (5 and 2) seated.  I used it a lot until the paranoid freak in me settled down some (there were some issues going on with my parents at the time...they had me really freaked out about a lot of things that you just can't control).  Now that I know I had a ton of irrational fears, I don't really need it for the same reasons.  I ended up buying (well, dh bought-he spoiled me) a ...shoot, I can't remember the name.  Anyway, it was a big side by side stroller that was like $600.  I ended up not really liking it much.  So we sold it like a year later.  The Quattro gets a lot of bad reviews because it's heavy (close to 50lbs), but I really like it because the front seat can hold a 50lb kid.  It's sturdy.

That said, it's sitting on my covered porch.  I think we've used it maybe a handful of times in the last few months, going on walks around the neighborhood.  I don't even keep it in the Suburban anymore because we just use a cart if we're at a store with a cart, or I'll wear #4 if we're at the mall or something and hold #3's hand.  Or he'll hold #1's hand (or Daddy's if he's with us).

Right?  It sucks, especially with strollers being so expensive.  I regret my travel system stroller, like everyone said I would, but at least I got a nice Maclaren umbrella stroller that has been great.

We have that car, too, and use it around the neighborhood, but it's really loud since it's a hand me down.  It came in handy last summer when we walked down to the pool in our apartment complex and back with a wet baby.  Now that we're in a house, it's not as useful, but still fun.

  • Currently I plan on wearing baby #2 when we are out and letting #1 walk or use the Chicco umbrella stroller when we are out.  I also have a travel system (that I loved) and we will probably use that for part of the time and let #1 walk and hold our hands.  We don't go a whole lot of places where I really use the stroller now (prob cause I work and on weekends there are 2 of use to help wrangle our son).  Still on the fence about the double stroller thing, I can see it being more of a later purchase as our needs change and kids get heavier.

Mine will be 16.5 months apart so I think I am going to have to get a double.  Some of the ones I am looking at are (and I am a research NUT).  I have to have one that will accept our Keyfit 30 so we'll see.  I might wait and get it after the baby is born or go ahead and pull the trigger now.  We'll see!

I love the idea of the City Select but in our neighborhood we have to go up and down lots of curbs and I read that the City Select doesn't handle that very well so I think that's out for us.  :(  I'm hoping something else awesome comes out in the next 8-12 months!

  • Bumbleride Indie Twin!  Thank you, that's what it was called.  It was really well made, but I had a heck of a time with it in the mall.  It barely fit through doors, and forget looking in the clothing department in places like JCPenneys.  It was SOOOO smooth though, dh loved how easy it was to push.
