I was reading a post on the Toddler board and was reading that a lot of people incorporate juice/watered down juice into their LO's daily drink intake. I never offer juice. He's gotten a sip of lemonade here or there when we're out at an event but that's it. We don't offer juice at home. Should I? I just figured it had a ton of sugar in it and that as long as I'm giving him plenty of fresh fruits and veggies that we should be fine.
Is everyone here doing juice for their LO? And am I depriving him of something if I'm not? My pedi once recommended some apple juice to 'soften' his stools but that was a while ago and I just upped his intake of fruits and it seemed to work.
Re: Juice?
We don't do juice either. He only drinks milk and water and we haven't had any issues. He loves fruit and certain veggies. I figure he will learn about juice later on (daycare or preschool and then we can start the watered down stuff) I was never a big juice drinker growing up and Dh and I do smoothies every once in awhile that we will share with A but we dont drink juice.
No juice here either! I feel the same way you do though sometimes. I do think that it doesn't benefit him as far as nutritionally, so it's not necessary. My son was 27 pounds at his 18 month visit, so I am not concerned about weight gain.
I have given him a sip here and there of my flavored water, and he hates it! It's fine by me since he loves plain water, so that makes me happy.
We don't generally do juice either. He did get two glasses of water + a bit of apple juice today, but that's because I'm CRAVING apple juice and he wanted mine.
Usually we don't do juice at all. His daycare gives it everyday for snack, but Nate and another boy just had milk instead. I don't think they are missing out.
We don't give DS juice. He's had it watered down about 3 times ever.
The most recent time was watered down V8 Splash at my mom's b/c he went from no fever to suddenly it being 102.7 & he didn't want regular water. He had been running around a lot with his older cousins, so I figured it would help more than hurt in that instance.
I made a point to not even call it "juice" b/c he loved it so much & I didn't want him knowing what it is called, lol, I am so lame.
Haha, that is actually a really good idea. As soon as DS knows the name of something he gets obsessed with it and yells it out and signs 'more' until he gets it. I'll just keep the word juice out of his vocabulary.
This made me laugh
Thank goodness for no juice withdrawals!
p.s. not judging juice givers, I just really thought I missed a memo based on the responses in another post
Lol we have kept "cookie" out of A's vocab. We use the word cracker for crackers and cookies instead. Sometimes he gets a cookie sometimes a cracker.... Sneaky parents
Totally agree - Bosha's brilliant for not calling it juice! Wish I could rewind to the pre-knowledge of juice days. (DH drinks a fair amount of juice, and now we hear the constant please juice? pretty-much everytime we open the fridge!)
I wanted to avoid it entirely, but we now do watered-down juice a few times a week because on hot days, we want to be sure he's keeping hydrated.LO just isn't a very good drinker, and do sometimes offer juice cause he swigs it down so quickly.

I would like to come out and say that I LOVE JUICE! JUICY JUICE JUICE!
But I know that it is basically sugar water, so I don't drink it as often as I would like to. Yummy. And since I try to give Jackson healthy options for food and drink he has only had it a handful of times. I also make it about 80-90% water.
I recently borrowed my moms juicer and DH and I made our own apple-carrot-spinach-cucumber-blueberry concoction and it was delicious. So if Jack starts asking for juice I'll make some REAL juice for him.
Same here!! lol I love me some good old Juicy Juice, actually. Yum!
We give C juice every once in a while - especially if its hot or he's sick and we need to keep him hydrated. He will guzzle it. Its watered down and always 100% juice so I don't feel bad about it. He doesn't, however, and will never get soda.

We do really watered down juice. I fill the sippy 3/4 with water and add a splash of apple or grape juice. Sometimes we do the fruitables and I'll add a bit more of that to the water.
They get about 3-4 milk sippies and 1-2 juice sippies a day depending on how active they are during the day.
Oh well since we are talking about ourselves now -lol - I love juice, too! And Arizona green tea w/ honey - yum! We have either one on our fridge on most days.
But, we don't give it to DS! If he points to our glass, I just say, "no, that's mommy's drink. Here's Anthony's drink" - and give him his plain water. It works for now.
J only gets 4 oz of juice at snack at dc and he's not even there everyday for snack so I don't worry about it. They have to give 100% juice and only give half a sippy so not like he gets a ton and he never asks for it at home
I do not give him soda and sweet tea and I won't for many more years. I don't drink the crap and I don't see a reason for him to

I never give DS juice myself, but he gets watered down juice at daycare. I insisted no juice for awhile, but daycare kept saying he wasn't drinking his water and that all the other kids were getting juice and DS wanted it. So I've relented and told them to water it down so it's like 1/4 juice and 3/4 water. And he only gets it once a day, so I'm not too worried about it.
Confession: DS also really likes flavored sparkling water. He sees DH and I drink it and sometimes asks for it. We give him a sip or two. But it actually doesn't have any sugar in it, so I guess it's not even as 'bad' as juice.
I don't. Juice is just sugar water. Fresh fruit is great because it has fiber in it, but juice doesn't so you're just left with the sugar.
DD has had juice once because a friend's kid was having some and offered it to her. She pooped like a madwoman that day! Eeek!
Juice isn't neccesary. My DD loves water and milk so I really see no need. If I had a hard time getting enough fluids in her then I might consider adding a splash of juice, but otherwise see no need.
ETA- my DD also eats fruit like it's going out of style. She is really small, also, and I'd rather her get fat and healthy calories from milk than fill up on juice.
