I have a weight question, and I fully am aware that every body is different. I just wanted some personal stories from ladies I 'know.'
How much weight were you told to gain? How much have you/did you end up gaining? When did you really start gaining the weight/When did you gain the most weight?
You don't have to answer them all, I was just curious. I know what the 'normal' weight gain schedule is for 'normal' gals, but not necessarily for us fluffy gals.
I was told to gain absolutely no more than 15lbs, and I was in no way recommended to lose weight.
Well, since 5 weeks ago I've gained 1lb, but I am still down 2lbs from my starting weight. My office gave me pamphlet saying that for those told to gain 30 lbs, they should gain 1lb a week every week until month 8. Also how to eat those extra 300 calories.... which was obviously completely worthless to me, lol!
I'm not quite sure how the weight gain stuff works while pregnant (or when not pregnant, to be honest. My hormones are so out of whack that calories in=calories out is a lie.) so if I don't change my eating habits, is it likely I will keep the 1lb gain a month schedule? Or should I expect to blink and just gain weight randomly? I'm just curious. Thanks ladies.
Re: Any fluffy gals around?
It was recommended that I gain 15 - 20 lbs. My OB didn't say anything about losing weight, however isn't pleased that I've lost 15 lbs since I was 8wks. I've yet to gain any. My last appointment I had only lost 1/2 a pound, so I'm guessing by my 20 wk appointment I will have gain a whole pound, I hope!
BFP #1: 8/2011 ** EDD: 5/9/2012 ** Missed m/c discovered at 13 weeks
BFP #2: 4/4/2012 ** EDD: 12/24/12 ** Born: Charlotte "Charlie" Olivia 12/18/2013, 8 lbs 1 oz, 21 inches!!!
This is my second pregnancy, and so far, neither of my doctors have even mentioned how much weight I should gain. Going by online recommendations, I know I should gain (and should have gained) 11-20lbs.
Well, with my DS I gained 40!! Only once did my doctor say anything about it, and it was an isolated week. She just said to try and cut back on the salt and that was pretty much it. I gained a lot of my weight though with being on bedrest and having pre-eclampsia (swelling/water retention). Most of my weight gain was from halfway through the pregnancy, onward.
This time, I started out a few pounds less than what I did when I got pregnant with DS. I dropped 4 due to M/S, but have since gained that back. I am up 1 lb since then. I am not sure what my doctor's views on that are especially since when they weighed me the first time, I was already down the 4. We will see how this one goes.
Good luck! It will be okay

I'm glad you brought this up, because I got back from vacation yesterday, stepped on the scale, and - yikes! I'm up about 10 pounds since I found out I was pregnant and I'm only 15 weeks.
My doc didn't give me any guidelines, just said to eat healthy. I only gained 2 pounds from appointment 1 to appointment 2. But I'm afraid I'm going to get yelled at when I go in for my next appointment in 2 weeks because I'll be up another 5 at least. Ugh. I don't feel like I've been eating that poorly. Boo!
Last time I was told to only gain 15 lbs. However before I even saw the doc then I actually lost 10 lbs. So when I gained the 15 I really kinda felt like I had only really gained 5 (at least this was in my head rationale). So really I did gain almost 30 lbs last time but I saw it as only 20 lbs. My OB was good and didn't really bother me about it, just reminded me slightly. And I think the last 10 lbs was in my last month.
This time my OB has not said anything about it but I'm excited that I've actually lost 3 lbs and I'm not trying.
Me too. I think at my weight it's been between 15-20 for 4 of my pregnancies, the 25-30 range when I was thinner for 2 of them.
Preg 1 - gained 16 (I was heavy) 8 1/2 lb baby
Preg 2 - gained 6 ( I was really thin, MW was freaked out - baby was perfectly healthy 7 1/2 lbs)
Preg 3 - gained 42 (I was thinner, but had a 10lb baby and was told they'd never seen such a big placenta)
Preg 4 - gained 19 (heavy) 8lber
Preg 5 - gained 9 (heavy & GD - MW was happy at how little I gained
see #2??) 8lber
Preg 7- So far, I've lost 4, am about the same weight as #4, but have GD, so MW is happy again. Go figure.
My "story" is a little different but here ya go lol I was on HCG to lose weight and got pregnant about 2 weeks into the cycle. I didnt find out until I 5 weeks later that we were pregnant and in that 2 month time period I had lost 30lbs. Of course once we found out, I got on a normal diet again and haven't gained anything back thank gosh.
My dr told me that because Im still so overweight that ideally, he doesn't want me to gain anything at all, but Im pretty sure thats not really possible lol. My dr also didn't give me much insight about when the weight might start gaining or anything, maybe it has to do with him being a male dr lol a female might have given me a little more insight I think. Im pretty sure the only thing that has gotten fluffier so far are my boobs lol hopefully it stays that way!!

My doctor didn't prescribe a certain amount to gain. I didn't gain at all in the first tri but did gain 2 lbs by the time I had my 15 week appt which he said was good. (I wasn't too crazy about it but what can I do?)
I'm hoping I stick to the lower end of the range for weight gain b/c I feel plenty big already but I get the impression that its somewhat out of my control. I can only eat healthly and hope for the best.
I am 5'4 and my pre-pregnancy weight was 211. My OB said it was okay to gain between 10-20 pounds but to try to stay around 15, but I have actually lost 3 pounds.
Pregnancy has been an awesome diet for me lol Mostly because I get full so quick that my meals are very small so I have been cutting out a ton of useless calories that I would normally be stuffing my face with.
My OB isn't worried about the weight loss though because she told me a lot of women who are overweight end up weighing less at the end of pregnancy, mostly because the baby forces you to change your diet, as mine is doing.
