Swaddle Me Issue

I was given a swaddle me for a shower present.  We tried to put DD in it, and her arms still flew out.  She's almost 10 lbs, so I don't think she's too small for it, though I don't remember what size it is.  Is there some secret to getting it to work?

I tuck her into the pocket, fit the semicircle velcro together, then pull the other side across and velcro.

Re: Swaddle Me Issue

  • Are you keeping her arms down at her sides? Is it tight enough? I had to practice a few times to get the hang of it, but now I'm a pro and my son sleeps in a swaddle me every night.

  • Are you making it tight enough? For my LOs that liked being swaddled they liked it really tight. Once we tuck DSs legs into the pocket we hold his right arm at his side and wrap the one side over, then keep his left arm down and bring the other side over. That said, my DS is probably a good 10 lbs now (not exactly sure, but he was 9lbs 12 oz last week), and I think he's outgrown his SwaddleMe, so if your LO is 'escaping' it could be that you need to go up a size.

  • How are the arms getting out?  Like is the Velcro all still together and they are coming out the top? Or is she busting the Velcro?

If it's the top be sure you are lining up the swaddleme at the top of her shoulders and when you pull the flaps across go at a slightly downward angle (toward the hip instead of straight across horizontal) so the top isn't loose.

If she's busting the Velcro then you need a bigger size.

  • I couldn't get it tight enough so it didn't work well for my DD. She likes the A&A blankets better because I can swaddle her much tighter.

  • ds is in one for every nap and over night. he loves it. once the legs are in the pocket, hold the right arm straight down, pull the right side of the blanket (your left), line up the velcro, then don't just tuck it over, pull the left side tight (your right) while you pull the right side (your left) and you kind of have to roll your lo onto their ride side and wrap flat underneath them (while pulling it downward a little), then wrap the left side over and velcro. it's a little awkward getting the pulling/rolling/wrapping motion down, but once you do it will be tight and perfect. make sure lo's arms are straight down while you're wrapping, too!

  • i have to pull mine to what seems like crazy tight. I also always make sure his arms are tucked down really well. Good luck!

  • I think I haven't gotten it tight enough.  She's definitely not too big for it.  If anything, she'd be too small.  I'll try again - thanks!

  • There are 2 different sizes, small 7-14 lbs and medium which is like 15-25?

Maybe it's a medium and just too loose?
