Sciatica Nerve

Ok ladies,

I pinched my sciatica nerve last night and OMG I feel like I am going to die. Every step I feel like I could cry it hurts so much.

Anyone else having this issue.

I NEED RELIEF.... FAST!!!!

Re: Sciatica Nerve

  • Ice is your only real option. The medical treatment for it is an epidural, go figure.

  • This happened to me at the very beginning of pregnancy! I feel your pain!!! My doctor actually suggested physical therapy and said if that didn't help he would do some "manipulation" (like chiropractor but a little safter...esp with being preggo)

However, the physical therapy really helped! When it would "flare up" I had certain positions I could put myself in to relax my muscles away from the nerve. The one that worked best for me was being on all fours and lowering and then arching your back kind of like a cat. My therapist also suggested that I use both ice and heat...and I had better luck with the heat, and doc said it was okay as long as i didn't fall asleep on it or leave it on too long.

    Good luck!!

FYI: As long as your chiropractor is trained to work with pregnant women, it's perfectly safe.  In fact, I would trust a chiro over a doc (unless it was a DO) for manipulation since that is what they're trained to do--MDs are not.

  • I had the same thing. I tried heat/ice, but it didn't help much. What helped me was swimming. I was in a pool for a few hours and walked laps and the next day i felt 90% better. I haven't had an issue since. Might want to consider that? I know its painful :(
  • That's terrible. I've had that happen, but only when I wasn't pregnant. The only remedy that worked for me was having the electric shocks at the chiropractor. I don't know if that's an option when you are pregnant. It was almost immediate relief for me. Good luck!

I pinched mine (granted i wasn't pregnant).  Alternate between ice & heat - neither more than 20 mins. at a time.  And see a chiropractor or a massage therapist.  Make sure they do maternity (a no brainer there).  Good Luck and hopefully it gets better soon.  It took me about 2 months to get mine right.  I pinched mine pretty severely and I have scoliosis so that aggravated it.

My doc told me heat. Honestly, I don't know what to believe.

  • I had the same thing in the beginning and started seeing a chiropractor (he's worked on many pregnant women and came highly recommended). I don't have the issue anymore and you can ice in the in-betweens as well to help.

I have found ice helps me more than heat since it reduces the swelling that can put pressure on the nerve. Heat feels great, but for me it doesn't have as long of an effect.

I have had a few epidural injections over the past few years to reduce the swelling in my spine that causes my sciatica. I am planning on a NB, but if I get an epi, I will cherish the pain relief in my spine.

    I make cute babies.

  • Thanks ladies... went home and laid on a heating pad. It is feeling a little bit better today but still real sensative so I dont make quick movements.

    Thanks for all your advice!!!
