Babies: 3 - 6 Months

back to belly

When did your LO roll back to belly? My LO still hasn't and I'm wondering if that's normal. He rolled tummy to back early, at 2 months. He HATES being on his belly so I know rolling belly to back was just to get off his belly! However he doesnt have that motivation to go from back to belly

Re: back to belly

  • DS can do it but it takes a lot of grunting and work!  We have a friend whose daughter is 7 mos and has never rolled back to belly... she is sitting up, but has apparently never rolled even in the night-- Mom says she goes down on her back and is always on her back in the same spot in the morning.  Don't sweat it, all in good time!

She first did it a month or so ago and is starting to get more consistent with it now. We still are nowhere near consistent with tummy to back and I think the couple times she has done it was a fluke. (She hates being on her stomach so mostly will faceplant and scream during tummy time.)

My LO is sitting up also, he started a few weeks ago and can now sit unassisted for up to 15 mins, he just has no interest in rolling back to belly

  • My little guy did it while in the crib on his back for a nap - I didn't see it, but I found him on his belly later!  He was one week shy of 4 months.  I just started letting him sleep on his belly, so I don't expect to see much of it for a while.

  • DD1 took forever to roll from back to belly. I don't remember exactly when, but I think it was over 6 months.  She did it a couple times but just never had any interest.

  • He started doing it about a month ago I think.

  • My LO just started rolling back to belly last week. At about 2 months she rolled belly to back a couple of times, and completely stopped trying to roll over at all - then all of a sudden she's rolling back to belly pretty easily.

  • I have a developmental milestone chart and rolling back to belly is listed under 6 months.  Even if he isn't doing it in another month, I still wouldn't worry cause those are just general guidelines, some babies do it sooner and some later (like other posters said, some not at all).

  • She started at 4.5mo and hasn't stopped since!

  • Mine has yet to either!  :)  I have a big boy....19 lbs and the doc seems to think that is partly the reason he is unable to roll easily. :)

Mine hasn't. She can get halfway but that's it, and doesn't seem interested by all the tricks I've tried. She's not sitting either, unless propped. But she's strong, can roll belly to back and does "baby pushups" and scoots around during tummy time so I'm trying not to worry.
