We had our NT Scan today and I was so excited to see our little bean!! It was so cute and so active!! Everything was going well and I was trying to watch as she took the different measurements. The membrane that they measure in the back of the neck was measuring 3.0 mm and I was trying so hard to remember what was normal from DS's cause I felt like that number was high. Well the Dr at the Radiology Facility sat down to give us the results after the Scan and said that my risk for Down Syndrome or the Trisomys was in normal limits. Well my risk for Downs at my age (32) is already 1 in 459. After my testing my risk was 1 in 415. The dr said a flagged result would be if my risk was 1 in 300 or less. He assured me that those numbers were fine and that the higher risk was from that high measurement. He suggested that I have another blood test done at 16 weeks and then when I have the Anatomy Scan at 18-20 weeks they will have to focus on the heart to make sure there are no defects. So its not a terrible outcome, or even a definitive one, but it definitely made me sad to not walk out of there with an "everything looks great" outcome. Anyone else have questionable results like this? Thanks!!
Re: Hmmm... questionable NT Scan results
Oh and baby measured exactly where I am today, 12w1d and had a hr of 159!!
Well, it sounds like you have one healthly little nugget. Try not to worry, as I tell you this, I'm trying to remind myself, as well. We had our NT scan on Monday. One baby measured 1.6mm and the other 1.7mm. Although, our measurements seem to be at the average range, our peri told us that it looked like our babies were in the same placenta, which adds a scary element to the already risky twin PG.
Keep in mind, "Though the risk will be higher if your baby measures 2.5mm to 3.5mm but, nine out of 10 babies with a measurement between 2.5mm and 3.5mm will be completely normal." I found this on a web site when I was researching the NT scan. I hope that this will help to ease your concerns a bit. I"m an odds girl, and I like those odds
You are young, too!
My DS's were all really low risk too! I remember them telling me I had the risk of a 21 year old at the time!! I did read the same article about 9 out of 10 Babies were fine, which did make me feel better!
On the other hand, I also felt like this facility was trying to push you to have additional/un-neccessary tests done (they gave me a pamphlet about how they have some super u/s for 18-22 weeks that most ins don't cover but you should have that one instead of the regular one and why it was better...), so part of me felt this dr (who I don't know at all) was pushing these tests. Why would I go back to a Radiology facility for additional 16w bloodwork instead of my DR or a lab?? I have my reg OB appt on Mon night, so I plan on discussing everything with them!! Thanks for your help and support and positive reassurance!!
Congrats!! that's super exciting!!
I had our NT scan at 12 wk and 1 day and our little bean was measuring at 12 wk 5 dy, but apparently at this stage that doesn't mean anything. Our baby's hr was 160bpm!
The distance for hte neck fluid was only 1.65 for us; i'm only 25. My doctor told me they look for greater than 3.0 to be consisdered for a positive test and thereby followup testing.
@ perfectpair1275:
I was just wondering how the testing ended up for you. My wife and I went in for our 12 weeks NT test yesterday. We thought everything was fine, but the doctor spoke to us after and said the nuchal fold measured 3.0mm which was higher than normal.
He had us take blood work, but we won't find anything else out until we go back and do the second round of blood work at 16 weeks. He then said that around 20 weeks he wanted to do an echo of the heart to make sure everything is ok with it.
As far as I know everything else looked normal with the US. Heart rate was 160, they said they do not measure the nasal bone or anything else though.
We are trying to figure out if there is anything we can do in the mean time. Any tests or anything to help put our mind at ease. 4 weeks is going to be a rough wait.
Since your situation was similar I was interested in how everything turned out.
