Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Alomst 9 months ... water baby!

We have an almost 9 month old (5 days shy of 9 months) and he is crazy about water!

We've done the baby pool and as soon as he figured out how to crawl out ... he wouldn't stay in for long before he'd get bored. Then we got the stage one baby float and now he's bored with that. He'd much rather be held so he can splash and play. He LOVES when we hold him like he's swimming and he's starting to kick his feet to move around. He can't even be in the kitchen if we are doing dishes or making bottles because he tries to get to the water... ANY suggestions on floaties??? BTW he's around 25-27 pounds.

  • DD is the same way but she is much smaller ...Did you look into the bathing suit vest type floaties. The small ones are good for his weight.

  • My little guy is 19lbs. and we have a life preserver that he wears.  It allows him to float on his back and he kicks his feet to motor around.  He loves it because he doesn't have to be held or wear a big float.  He can kick and splash and turn his face into the water if he wants.  **Note, I still do not leave his side even though he can not turn completely over go under.

  • My DD LOVES swimming!!! She goes nuts. We have a little airplane floaty that she can sit in, or we hold her. My best friend will be doing ?swim?, lessons with us later this summer (she just had a baby herself). But she says absolutely no arm floaties and no flotation suits because it teaches them they can float with no effort. DD will be learning to blow bubbles, get to the edge (should she fall in) and monkey walk along the edge to the stairs. Obviously, we hope she never has to use any of these. We're airways right with her....but better safe than sorry.

  • Thanks ladies! I also don't like the old floaties or water wings but they've come along way! Vest don't work because no matter how tight you fit them they always float up into his neck/face and he goes crazy. They make a shirt that goes over his arms and has a small tube attached ... https://www.swimtowin.com/00233.aspx

I'll let you all know how this works!
