Xp ergo boba beco recommendation please!

I am expecting at the end of September and dd will be 15 months at that time.  I'm looking for a carrier that will work for my newborn as well as dd.  she is large for her age already 33 inches.  My first priority for the carrier is the newborn though.  I want something easy to put on and that I can bf in if possible. I've heard that different carriers work for different body types so if it helps I'm 5'6 and size 12 to 14

I posted the above in the attachment parenting board but didn't get any responses. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Xp ergo boba beco recommendation please!

  • Carriers are really personal preference, but... I have an ergo and a becco gemini. I personally like the becco better because I think it is easier to put on and baby can face out.

The ergo is awesome though and I think I can wear my 24 lb baby boy in it longer than the becco and still be really comfortable.

I purchased the newborn insert for the ergo, but he hated all baby carriers until he was like 7 months, so, I do not how that would have been with a new born.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and finding the perfect carrier.

  • I have the Beco Gemini as well.  I think it's great.  The instructions say you can use it with a newborn.  I had a Moby for that stage as well as a ring sling.  My LO is still comfy in the Beco.  He is 31" and we still have room for him to grow.  I wear him on my back mostly at this point, which is really why I got this carrier.  I have a similar build to you.  BFing was something I always had to concentrate to do so I couldn't do it with LO in a carrier so I cannot help you there.

  • I have been very happy with my beco gemini.  We used it as soon as LO hit 7 lbs and we still use it today.  I have never tried nursing in it so I can't help you there, but I know it is possible.  I'm 5'7" about 145.
  • I have a BabyHawk mei tei that I like. I have BF in it several times. I used it when DD was a newborn too (the website has instructions for different carries, including newborn). The only drawback to it is that it isn't very poppable because you have to tie it each time. It is easy to put on, just takes a few minutes, not like slipping an ergo over your head and off you go. Other than that, I love it!

  • We have an Ergo, a kinder pack, a Babyhawk, two woven wraps and two ring slings.

The ring sling is great for a newborn, easy to get them in and out of fast. They can be used for older LO's, DD goes in ours to run into the grocery store or to run into play group. I wouldn't use it for a long trip but they are great.

The Ergo we used from 4 months on and DH loves it, I find the clipping the straps together in a front carry a PITA. Now that we use it on our back it's much easier. I've never tried to BF in it.

The Kinderpack is like the Ergo but they make them so you don't have to use an insert, the base of the barrier is adjustable so you can use it for a nb up to I believe 18month with it still going knee to knee.

Babyhawk is great, it's easy on and off, I find it as fast as the Ergo. The bonus is that you don't have to fiddle with the straps when your DH used it last.

Woven wraps are great but have a learning curve and aren't spec fast to use unless you use sustain carries.

  • I love our Beco Gemini and have been using it since A was about 3-4 months old.  I bought a ring sling for baby #2 for the NB stage because the Gemini seemed too big for a NB (even though it is meant to be used from birth).  I have heard really good things about the new Boba too so I would check that out!

  • (sorry to write a new post but my phone won't let me edit my previous one).

You can also rent and try out carriers from Paxbaby.com and see what you like. That might help you decide what works best for you.

  • i have an ergo and really like it for older babies, but i did not care for the infant insert.  dd2 didn't really make good use of the ergo until she was 4 months old.  prior to that time, we used a baby bjorn, which i actually really liked.  i know some people worry about how baby hangs in those, but she didn't spend hours at a time in it, so i figured everything in moderation.

  • I have the boba and the ergo. I love both, the ergo worked great with the infant carrier insert (my boba didn't have an insert, though I don't know if I could have used the insert with it). Now with DS at 30" and 21 lbs we still love both, and can easily do a back carry. The ergo is softter, which is sometimes nicer, and the boba is a little firmer, which is also sometimes nicer (especially for a back carry). I'm pretty petite, DH is tall and likes the ergo better.

  • Another vote for Beco Gemini :) I still need to figure out the hip carry, but my LO is very comfy in it.
