We're actually not doing too shabby considering how addicted Rubes is to the bottle.
I started July 1 by taking away her morning bottle. She cried a good four days at nap for it..but I stayed strong and said I'd only give it back after 15 minutes. I never had to...she was always over it by minute 13ish. ![]()
When the 5th day rolled around, no tears! On the 6th day I took away her afternoon bottle and it was like a switch clicked. We only had one day of tears.
Tonight I decided it was time to take away her bedtime bottle as well. She's in there now, sippy cup gone, talking to herself. We'll see how long that lasts and if she falls asleep. If she's screaming in 15 minutes, she can have the bottle. Nighttime is where her strongest sleep association is with the bottle, so I'm not going to push it. Night-time bottles won't bother for me a long time yet if it doesn't work, and we all need our rest!
She wakes up once overnight a couple times a week, I haven't decided what I'm going to do there yet. That's next week's battle.
I will say, slow and steady was definitely the way for us to go!
I also have to say, I really don't see what the excitement about taking the bottle away is....lol. It means my baby is a big girl.
That and all we did is trade a bottle for a sippy..which TBH is the same damn difference at the end of the day...lol.
Esp. since she only likes the straw kind.
Re: Update to take away the bottle day! LOL.
If there is milk in her sippy she will drink it gone, no problem. It's her association with crib or highchair depending on the time of the day. She practically chugs it then throws it to the floor when it's done..lol. She did that with her bottles. That was pure luck TBH, she's always been that way, I did nothing to help that.
If there's water in it, she'll graze all day. But I also make it a point to give her a water sippy throughout the day too/set on the floor as she plays etc. I'm a huge sipper and I think she is too.
I swear the kid drinks her weight in liquids everyday anyways, so on the rare chance she doesn't finish a milk bottle I don't get too worked.
As for the rest, just remember babies do it all eventuall on their own schedule.
Great job on the transition! I was lucky and H had no tears leaving the bottle, I just didn't give it to her one day and voila! And like sharon- the only reason I am a little excited is because I don't have to lug two/three bottles and powder
but sad because she doesn't cuddle for milk!
But I do agree- at the end of the day the sippy and bottle do the same thing. She's been bottle less for almost two weeks, and during night time I was putting water in her sippy..last night we did without it since its what the bottle did..and she didn't mind. We'll see how tonight goes.
This is true. I never thought about that. I guess I've always been lucky. Rubes likes her bottles room temp. So it was just always a matter of taking a bottle with some formula in the bottom and adding water.
I wish Dylan liked his bottles room temp. I did have our little system down to a tee though
