dd used to sttn 10-11 hours. then we transitioned from the rnp to pnp about 4 weeks ago and she started waking once per night. now it's at least twice. i feed her each time (she genuinely seems hungry) but i have a hard time getting her back to sleep. i can put her down drowsy for bedtime but not in the night. i have to either let her nurse to sleep or hold/bounce her for 20 minutes until she's in a deep sleep. i work f/t and this is starting to kill me. ideas? i have tried soothing her in the pnp and she just cries. nursing to sleep seems bad because i think she just keeps wanting it more (hence the increasing wakings).
Re: 4 month wakeful - help with nightwakings please!
I was going to post about this same issue!! MY NECK is killing me today at work because I'm afraid to co-sleep with him! He is doing the exact same thing!
One thing thats changed for us is -Now i have to take him someplace quiet to nurse or else he will get fussy trying to watch or be a part of the excitement of our family room. Even the TV on is a distraction for him now. Weird huh....
So i am in the same boat. Looking forward to seeing other's suggestions!
My advice--do whatever you have to do to get through this period. Our 4 month wakeful was terrible and I don't even work. If it means nursing to sleep, DO IT! We also co-sleep for the last stretch of the morning (5am/6am until we get up for the day) since that's when DD would be the most unsettled/likely to stay awake otherwise.
I've spent 5 months avoiding nursing to sleep because I didn't want to create a bad habit. This led to me dreading bedtime and having to listen to DD fuss until she fell asleep. Last week I decided to try nursing to sleep and it was like magic--no more crying and no more stress at bedtime.
