Trying to Get Pregnant

So much for positive thinking..NTTCR/rant

In my intro the other day I mentioned all the crap DH and I have gone through this year (lost jobs, selling house, etc)  We currently are living in an apartment and renting out our house which will be ending mid August.  We don't have a bite on the house for sell or rent at all yet.  I also am unemployed right now but will be receiving income until August and unemployment soon.  Of course DH brings all this up last night right before bed and now he and I are worrying like crazy through the night and me all day today.

Well I went through all the numbers and i've determined that if we don't sell/rent the house soon we will be out of money in 7 months mainly because we will basically be having a double mortgage. Luckily we are good savers and have a lot of reserve money but I was hoping to save a lot of that so that we can eventually buy a house where we will eventually live (currently in Trumbull ct and looking to move to suburban Boston area)

Even dropping the price on our house will mean we still need to pay off 15k to 25k (depending on how much we go down) since we are currently selling at a loss already.  I'm just feeling so hopeless and depressed right now.  I don't know what to do/think right now...oh and bonus...our 3 year anniversary is tomorrow.  How freaking great is that?!

  • I'm not sure if you mentioned this before, but would it be possible to place your house up for rent for another year?  I'm so sorry you are going through all of this stress.  Finances can be extremely stressful on a couple.  Try to make the most out of your 3 year anniversary.  You two sound like you've gone through a lot of tough situations this past year.  Look back on all the support and strength you've given each other.

I hope you have a happy anniversary tomorrow!

  • Hi, I'm really sorry you and your husband are going through all this. Things will get better, I wish I had some advice to give you or something...

And about your anniversary, remember it's a celebration or your love and the promise you both made to spend all your life together, and that even if things are hard right now, you still have each other. Happy anniversary :)

  • DH and I are going through something similar.  We have been trying to sell our townhouse for almost 2 years and we haven't even received a crappy offer.  We are also selling it for less than what we owe on the mortgage so we are limited in how much we can lower the price.  We have thought about trying to rent it so we can buy a single family house.  We have a DD in daycare now which is so expensive so I worry that if the renters fall through, we would be stuck trying to pay 2 mortgages and a child in daycare.  We have also started TTC #2.  At this point, I feel like we are going to be stuck in our small 2 bedroom townhouse forever.  GL to you and I hope everything works out.

Lurker/first time poster, hope you dont if I give my 2 cents.

My SIL was in a similar position recently and after a lot of research she found a mortgage company that worked with her to refinance her house. Have you thought about trying to refinance? SIL had to do another 30 fixed but it reduced her monthly payment by $800. Obviously every situation is different but it may be worth looking into! GL!

  • Thanks for the advice ladies.  My mom called me to see how my vaca was and I immediately fell apart and we talked for a bit to help ease things.

Here's some more info about our situation.  We bought the house 2 years ago and are currently selling at a loss (about $11000 at this price)  We do have renters in there right now.  It is only a six month thing that will be ending in august.  Luckily they were paying almost $1000 extra a month since it was a 10 day move in, fully furnished, with a dog and a few other extras.  The down side was we had to buy brand new furniture for the new apartment (tv, stand, couches, mattress, bedroom set, and extra things for the kitchen we had to leave at the house)  The problem is we have no idea if anyone else is interested in renting it yet.  I emailed the realtor yesterday and called today (I almost lost it on the voicemail!) and hopefully there's good news but the basically double mortgage when you have mortgage and rent is so scary!

We also can't buy a house until we sell our current house which is why we just want to be DONE with it.  It originally was the house we were going to spend our entire lives in and now is the source of so much pain, frustration, and stress.  I'm just hoping the realtor calls today and has at least one bit of good news.  I think I'll fall apart on the phone if he has nothing good to say.

Again thank you for the support!  Where I am right now I am at least a hour away from any family or friends so I can't really go to someone to cry on their shoulders.  I think for tomorrow DH and I will just have a really nice meal at home and make plans to go see The Dark Knight Rises on opening night or something.  Or maybe matinee the next day :P
