If you stopped nursing to sleep with CIO...

How did you do it?  As many details as possible, please.

I do not want to wean DS,  but something has to give here. His only  issue is falling asleep.  He consistently STTN until 5am and then nursing and goes back to sleep until roughly 7.

  • I did Sleep Sense.  You follow a consistent bedtime routine so LO will learn it's time to go to bed.  I still nurse before bed, but you are not supposed to let LO fall asleep while nursing.  Then you put them to bed drowsy, but awake.  You can either stay in the room until they fall asleep or you can leave the room.  If you leave, you can check in if you feel you need to.  LO will probably cry for a bit.  With us, he cried for about 20 minutes the first night.  He still cries most nights and it's been over a month, but he usually doesn't cry for long and he usually STTN.

  • I did it cold turkey. the day we did CIO, stopped nursing, and didn't nurse all night (used to nurse 3-4xs a night).

Normal routine - dinner, bath, book, nurse, but kept LO awake while nursing - then either laid down in crib or rocked until drowsy but awake.

Just let him cry and learn to go to sleep.
