Now that my little girl's 1st birthday has passed, I have one piece of advice that I thought I wish someone had stressed to me before the big day. Just like at your wedding - TAKE TIME TO ENJOY THE DAY!! Your LO only turns 1 once. I made the mistake of having a large party to celebrate and had a blast planning and decorating and all that. And everyone had a great time. Except me. I was way too busy playing hostess to be able to sit back and enjoy my daughter turning 1. I even found myself in the other room cutting cake for guests and making coffee while my daughter was eating her cake for the first time!! What the heck was I thinking?! I wish I had made the dang coffee, cut the cake and made sure everyone had their cake BEFORE we sang happy birthday and had DS eat her cake. I did manage to catch some of it - but I wish I had scaled down the party or asked my Mom to take care of more of the "work" during the important parts of her birthday. If I have a second child, his/her first birthday party will be small.
