I would prefer not to use the community kitchen and sink to clean all of my pump parts (it's on different floor from my 'lactation station'). Does anyone use the Medela wipes to clean their pump? They seem a bit pricey though for 3 pumping sessions a day. Has anyone created a different cleaning solution to clean their pump parts at work? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA
Re: Cleaning pump parts at work?
Ditto this except that they were then put in my cooler bag that I kept in my office. Most of the time I didn't even rinse, they went straight from boobs back to the cooler! Then I ran them thru the dishwasher each night. I had 3 sets of parts so they had plenty of time to be cleaned/dry between uses.
I only do 2 pump sessions at work and they are 3 hours apart (so one at 10 AM and one at 1 PM or so.) I don't refrigerate or rinse. BM is good at room temp for several hours. I pump, wipe the parts out with tissue or paper towel, and then store in my pump bag. I pump the 2nd time, then my parts come home and get washed out. The pumped milk is stored in my cooler in my bag.
I just put the pump flanges in a ziploc and stored it in a bag in the fridge. I never rinsed them but washed them every night at home. I had two sets of them so just swapped them out every other day.
We have a lactation room at work with a fridge there so once I figured that out, I just put the ziploc in the fridge and skipped the outer bag. I did this starting at 3 mo and just finished pumping at 1 yr and this never caused a problem for LO.
