yards

Do you like your backyard or front yard? I can't stand mine, we have crummy grass and the shape of our house is a L shape so it's a little awkward. Plus the previous owners were heavy into flowers. I'm not into flowers so they got over run by weeds and now I feel like I live in a jungle.. Dh got so annoyed one time and now just takes the lawn mower and weed whacker to it all which makes the yard look like crap.

Re: yards

  • We don't have a yard we have a deck. But my parents have a huge yard (1 acre) the way the house sits on the property is awkward. Its right in the middle and has 4 1/4s yards.

My ideal yard would be a 2 acre piece of property with a nice grass area fenced in so I can just put the kids outside and cook dinner or what ever and know they are safe out back.

The fenced in area would be small enough for grass, and sprinkler and a playhouse/swing set.

You should put grass seed down to get better grass and just till the flower beds and seed that too

  • Save your money. Buy a landscaper and re-sod your lawn. We are going to do the same thing.

  • We have a pretty big, fenced-in back yard. I love it. We're not much into gardens or anything, though. We do have a lot of over-growth along our fence line that DH has a hard time keeping up with.

I like our front yard, too. It's a decent size and has a couple of smaller trees for shade. We live on a really busy street, though, so we don't spend much time in the front.

  • We have a big front and back yard. The previous owners did a wonderful job landscaping and I feel bad because I have kind of let it go.  I am not sure what are weeds and what are good things.  The strange thing is that we have a huge steal I beam in the middle of our back yard.  We asked why it was there and the realtor said ti was for a bird feeder.  It would require a crane to remove.  We tell people it is out pterodactyl perch.  DH wants to turn it into a may pole.

  • The lady who lived in our house before us was a botanist so there are all sorts of interesting plants and flowers in our yard.  Unfortunately, DH and I are not plant people.  We finally gave up and have a yard company do everything for us.

Our front yard is massive because we are set back from the road but our backyard is fairly small.  Plus, the dogs hang out back there and I admit that we don't scoop the poop as much as we should.  We mostly use the deck when we hang back there.

  • I'd lay down sod as well. Make the beds smaller using mulch and stone. Then add a few shrubs that don't require a lot of pruning.

  • My husband owns a landscaping company so he's made major improvements to both the front and the back since we bought our house in Feb. We still have some work to do in the back but the size of both is good and he installed an irrigation system so as I don't have to deal with watering it Smile

I also have grand dreams of building a garden next summer, but we'll see how it goes. I can barely keep house plants alive.

This is exactly what we are doing!

I think our is pricey since we have a large ish lawn and are also putting privacy shrubs along our back fence (we have a Mormon church behind our house, we don't like having so much people being able to look in). I think ours is costing between 4-7 grand? I think.

  • Hate it, currently. We have almost 4 acres but landscaping is on the back burner until our house is finished. It looks awful, save for the gorgeous wildflowers.

  • Our yard sucks, because DH and I hate hate hate yard work, so we do a little less than the bare minimum to maintain it. I love it though, it's my first yard and DS and I have a great time out there.

  • Our yard was terrible when we moved in 3 years ago. We couldn't afford to fix it all at once so we did one major repair each year. The first year we had the exterior reprinted, then we resodded(which made a huge difference in how much we used our yard, and this year we added a porch roof. I want my kiddos to play outside as much and now we have an outdoor living space.

  • Our yard was one of the main reasons we bought our house.  We have a failry large fenced in backyard with forever wild beyond the fenceline.  We have a deck that overlooks the backyard as well.  The only downfall is that the woman that we bought the house from was a bit manic and basically planted every insidious perennial that she could find.  With LO we don't have time to keep up with it so we have a jungle along the perimeter of our entire yard.

Our front yard is ok too.  We don't get a lot of through traffic so that is nice.  But we do have some teens in the neighborhood that think it is ok to go 50-60 MPH down residential streets, so we try to keep LO out of the front yard.

  • Hate our yard. Our house is built on ledge so the lawn is significantly sloped - it was such a PITA to mow. Between that and the fact that H is allergic to pollen, we now have a lawn service.

  • I do for the most part, but it's not perfect.  We have a huge fenced in backyard and an awesome garden, but our backyard won't grow grass.  Our front yard is decent but the landscaping is a little boring and dated.  Also our neighborhood is waterfront so we have a TON of mosquitos.  All of these things could be taken care of if we'd just spend some money, but we've yet to do so.
