I have a basket in my trunk that I stocked like a diaper bag so I don't have to pack up as much stuff when we go out. Essentially if we're running a short errand, storytime etc (less than 2 hours) I don't pack a diaper bag and just get in the car and go. I think it's made a big difference to how difficult 2u2 has been. I have two friends having their 2nd babies this summer (not actually 2u2, but close) and I thought about putting together something similar for them. One of them uses cloth diapers and the other uses disposables. I use cloth as well. Anyway, here's what I'm planning to include so far, please let me know if there's anything else that would be nice. Remember that these are 2nd time moms so the idea is not to get them things (because they have most of them) but to stock their cars so they can get out more (and visit with us).
-Big plastic tote with lid (to contain smells)
-diapers (in both sizes), for the cloth diaper mom I'll throw in a few disposables for emergencies and then she can add her own diapers.
-Some sort of smaller container per child for a change of clothes (I don't actually intend to give clothes, but I figure I can put a box in there for them to keep a spare set and also to put wet/dirty clothes in when they change them).
-Box of wipes
-Receiving blanket for changing pad
What am I missing?
Re: Trunk diaper box
I don't have any suggestions, but let me say THANK YOU! I think this is a great idea!!!
I will have 3u3 (possibley 3u2) in November and something like this would make outings so much eaiser since there is no way the diaper bag will be able to hold everything I need for 2 toddlers and a newborn.
I have a box like this and it's wonderful!
I have everything you listed, plus some plastic bags (for dirties, puke, whatever), juice box/water bottle, single serve snacks, hand sanitizer, and these awesome travel pack clorex wipes I found (at Target?). I also have a small quart size Ziplock bag with extra bandaids, Tylenol (me and LOs), and some other random first aid supplies. I keep the spare clothes in a gallon size Ziplock bag.
This! Thank you, this is a great idea! Trying to think of things I normally carry in my diaper bag that haven't been mentioned...hand sanitizer? sunscreen? a spare toy or a sippy cup to go with the snacks PP mentioned? I'm definitely going to have to put something similar together for my trunk!
You're all welcome. I'll add baggies to my list. Maybe ziplocks for clothes and old grocery bags for dirty diapers.
I personally don't keep lotions/creams or snacks in mine right now because of the extreme heat in the trunk when it's 100 degrees outside. I have a smaller tote bag with snacks and sippies that I bring in and out of the house so it stays cool. I might leave rash cream in the trunk when it gets cooler.
I like the first aid kit idea. I'll definitely throw some bandaids in there.
