LO unclipped chest buckle

So my LO unclipped the chest buckle on his car seat.  I have him RF, the straps go under and behind his shoulders as recommended, the chest buckle is at upper armpit level and the straps are tightened so that I cannot pinch the fabric.  WTF do I do?  Are covers for the chest buckle safe and ok to use?

I think there's covers out there; I also seem to remember a person recommending putting a button down or zipper clothing item over LO after they're strapped in?  I think it was emiliemadison (sp?), she was a car seat safety installer or something like that.

Hmmm.  Would I put the zip up or button down on backwards?  I guess I should maybe call a registered installer to see if the covers are safe.  I can't think of a reason they wouldn't be but want to make sure.  Thanks.

While add ons are never recommended, I can't imagine it is less safe than LO unbuckling himself.  DS has been very interested in buckling himself but hasn't figured out how to unbuckle yet.  I'm scared for this day.

  • No advice, but I am so sorry you are having to deal with this! I am so thankful that DS has shown no interest in unbuckling his.

She recommended putting a cut sock over it or a strip of velcro, "sticky" side up. I think it was her. Those were the recs I got when I asked a couple of weeks ago.

What did you end up doing?  Does it work?

  • Your son is he-man. I sometimes have trouble unbuckling DS's seat.
