3rd Trimester

First World Problem, I know...(rant)

I'm not much of a swimmer, really, and I usually don't enjoy going to the pool. But for the past few weeks all I have wanted to do was go to the pool. I thought it would feel so good to feel the cool water on my belly and to just walk around and enjoy the moment. I've told this to my DH multiple times.

Well, his sister and her kids came up to visit from PR and what did they do yesterday while I was at work? They went to the pool. At first I was a little upset because I didn't get to go with them, which would have been a blast, but then I thought, "No, it's ok. We can go tomorrow." Today, however, my DH and his dad are working on fixing our bathroom and his sister and the kids are going to see a movie.

This is probably a stupid rant (no probably about it), and I know that it is a big First World Problem, but I was pretty hurt by this. I know that he is working hard on finishing the bathroom so that we will have two of them for when the baby comes, but it really hurt my feelings that we didn't go to the pool together. I've been so swollen with the heat and for some reason, I have it in my head that if I went to the pool, I would feel amazing.

Sorry for bitching. Just had to get it off my chest....

  • Everything is a bit more upsetting when you're pregnant.  It's our hormones at work.  But that being said, I empathise with you.  And in the heat, no person can stay rational while being pregnant.  DH is lucky you didn't kick him and go pout.

  • This might be a stupid question, but why don't you go to the pool yourself?
  • And you can't go to the pool alone .... why, exactly?  It's not like your DH is laying on the couch picking his nose, he's working on your house.  Go swim.  You're a grown up.

  • You need an escort to go to the pool?

  • Hey, I hear you. I don't like to go swimming by myself either. It's not very fun.

  • OK, where are you?  Because I will go to the pool with you right now :)  It is frustrating, especially when DH knew how much you wanted to go.  I think a repeat trip for everyone is in order!

  • I agree with the PPs, another trip could be just what everyone needs after a long day of working on the house.

  • I would be just as upset as you. I am not one of those people who like to do things alone. I never go out to eat by myself, or go to the movies by myself and I definitely won't go to a pool by myself unless it's in my own backyard. It's just not something I would enjoy. I totally understand what you're saying.

  • It's totally bizarre that you won't just go relax at the pool by yourself.  Just go FFS!

I'd bring a book and go alone. No need to wait for anyone else.
  • I have gone to the local pool and jumped in by myself.  Try it, it's actually quite relaxing.  You can float around and be with your thoughts!  I have a similar rant, my parents have a pool, and are having a hard time getting it "open" this year.  The chemicals aren't cooperating, and I just want to go swimming all day everyday, and so far we have only been able to get in once!!!  MH is off tomorrow, so we are taking the kids to jump in a lake somewhere!

  • I would actually rather go to the pool by myself than have to drag my kids with me! LOL! I have to pack snacks, towels, etc. Much easier to grab a towel and head out the door........

This! I go to the pool by myself almost daily.

  • Looking at her ticker, I wouldn't want to go by myself so close to the end of the game. That's me, I am paranoid about being away from DH right now and my husband doesn't want me doing things alone anyway.

But if you are comfortable with it, go by yourself. If not, try to get him to take you here soon.

  • If it makes you feel any better I was doing laps at the pool on Friday and it was like swimming through sludge.  It had been so hot that day that the water was close to 90 degrees.  It only felt cool when you stood up out of it.
  • THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT WHEN I READ THIS RANT!! LOL Forget them and take a dip with your little bundle of joy! :)
