VBAC
No VBAC???

So my doc said that I am not a candidate for a VBAC. She says it's because I had "failure to dilate". Does this seem right to you?
A little back history. I went overdue with DD (41 weeks). Went to the hospital that night, they put in cervidil and let me sleep with it in. I started having contractions at 3 am. They woke me up, let me eat, then took out the cervidil. An hour later they said I should shower, that is when my water broke.
After this they checked me and I was only 2 cm. They told me they would be hooking me up to pit soon. Got the epi and took the pit. They had me maxed out on the pit for 4 hours and I only made it to 4.5 cm. This is where I stalled. So the doc called for C/S since it was getting close to 24 hours. During the surgery they discovered that DD's cord was wrapped around her neck 3 times and had no slack to drop.
I really don't think I was a true failure to dilate. DD never dropped, and I had nothing going on before then. What do you ladies think?

With all the research I have done on VBACs this is not a valid reason to not be a candidate. One labor does not forecast another and just becasue your babies cord was wrapped last time does not mean it will be the next time. I would for sure find another OB that is VBAC friendly. Personally I think you have a pretty good shot at VBAC.Look into ICAN there is a lot of information on this stuff.

Get a second opinion and change providers if you have that option.
You were induced so maybe your body wasn't ready to dilate. Obviously there were extenuating circumstances. Clearly this wasn't just a case of your body being incapable of giving birth.
I agree with the others--find another provider. My c/s was done because my cervix was not dilating normally--it was dilating on the outside but not the inside. The doc who did the c/s told me it was a congenital condition called cervical stenosis and I would never have a vaginal birth. However, my midwives still tell me that I can try for a VBAC and I'm getting a lot of good support that leads me to believe I can have a successful VBAC.
ETA: I was also very overdue and going through a non-medical induction, so it could have been my body just wasn't ready or hadn't been given enough time.
I've seen a baby delivered with cord wrapped around neck twice and under shoulders once. Some doctors freak out more about cord stuff than they need to. Not saying that was definitely the case with you, but in general.
Otherwise, it is very possible that you were just not ready to have a baby yet, and that is why the induction failed. 41 weeks isn't necessarily overdue, just past your estimated due date. Until 42 weeks is normal. Doctors get impatient for some reason.
I think if you go into labor *on your own* you have as much chance as anyone of having a vaginal birth.
You may want to talk to other doctors in your area and find one to support you in a VBAC now.
Also, "failure to progres" the first time (especially induced) doesn't mean you will have the same problem this time. Even if you do "fail to progress" this time, then that is a problem that can be worried about during labor and then you'll know you tried a VBAC. Having a trial of labor doesn't put you or baby at additional risk.
Another vote for a new provider! Have you gotten in touch with your local ICAN group yet? They can give you some good doctors to get a 2nd or 3rd opinion from.
