So, to recap from my intro post below, my water broke 2 weeks ago, and I have been in the hospital since. If things stay the same for another week, I will be induced at 34 weeks. I am so curious about the chances of induction working. I know your body has to be "favorable" for induction to work well. I asked one of the attending docs about it, and she said that if I was starting to dilate, there would be a decent chance. I was 1 cm when I was admitted. I would really like a vaginal birth if possible, but I want to set my expectations right and 34 weeks seems early for things to be favorable, although maybe my water being broken makes a difference.
Also, does anyone know if preemies require more monitoring in labor than full-term babies? Thanks!

Re: Success with pre-term induction?
The only question I can answer with certainty is that yes, preemies require much more monitoring during labor/birth than FT. I had so many people in that room I had to focus on a clock - intimidating - but then again how much will depend on your circumstances.
My L&D birth play was just 'to go with it' and I'm glad I had that in my head because with preemie births there's just no way to tell (and I didn't know I'd be having one, no prep for my brain!)......I did get to have him naturally but that was because he was already coming out of me while I was at work. I was close to an emergency c-section.
Both my girls were born early, the first due to pre-e. Before the 24 hour mark my body started to go into labor, the doctors did plan to induce me though. I did get an epidural, pitocin, and I did have her vaginally. She was born at 33 weeks and spent 12 days in the NICU (mainly as a feeder/grower).
With my second I had PTL, so they were trying to stop my contractions for about two weeks before I actually had her. My contractions at 34w 5d never stopped and I ended up having her without an epidural (very fast too), also born vaginally. Again she had a 14 days NICU stay. I don't really know if they did any extra monitoring, I've never had a full term baby, but they did hook me up to both contraction monitor and heartbeat monitor and made sure I was dilating, etc.
Praying your little one does well with the induction. Please keep us posted.
I think it helps so much if you can let go of expectations you may have for what childbirth will be like. I was able to do that with DD2 and it helped the experience be much less stressful.
I was induced both times- 34w (pre-e) and 35w (low fluid, IUGR). The first induction was successful and DD1 was born vaginally after almost 12 hours of Pitocin. The second induction ended in c-section. I was progressing, but DD2 wasn't doing well with the contractions so we opted to get her out quickly and safely (urgent but not emergency c-section).
FWIW, I wasn't dilated at all to start the successful induction and was dilated to a 2 to start the failed induction.
Good luck!
