Met our monitored visitation specialist...she rocks!

I wrote earlier today about my kids having to go to monitored visitation with my XH. I had my first meeting with the specialist in our case and she made it totally clear that her job is to protect my kids, NOT to do what is in the best interest of my XH!

She said she has serious concerns and understands that he may never earn unmonitored visitation! Wheewwww... I feel so much better. Thank you so much for all the positive thoughts, feedback, and prayers.

Knowing my kids have one more level of protection and an advocate makes me happy beyond words!

I'm glad you feel that way.  I just saw your other post and responded.  It's absolutely true that she is there for the benefit of the children.  Our monitor was there to make certain my daughter didn't say or do anything that might concern, confuse, bother or otherwise be detrimental to the girls.  If she started veering off into a questionable topic the supervisor redirected.  She took notes of anything worth remarking and those notes were included in the hearings that determined whether the kids were able to move back home, whether CPS should retain custody or she was behaving accordingly, etc.  You'll hopefully discovery that your kids will have a lot of people in their corner besides you during this time.  Our placement was with CPS so we had a lot of alternate routes and guidance but it included the supervision, a guardian ad litem, a DSHS caseworker and the girls were given counseling.  We went through counseling provided by Catholic Charities but there were other options that were provided as well.  If your girls have a Court advocate, give him/her a call and see if s/he can suggest resources for you.

  • Hooray! Glad you got an awesome monitored visitation specialist, and it is good to hear the BD will likely never get unsupervised visits. I hope things continue to go well :).

  • Thanks all!  My kids have a DV therapist, a guardian ad litem, I have a therapist, and now we have the monitored visitaton specialist.  So many great, concerned people are helping keep my kids safe.
