I loved this book and knew it off by heart by kindergarten (I thought at the time that I was reading it, but I was just reciting it, I think).

I also remember loving all the Little Miss and Mr books, The Cat in the Hat (and Comes Back), and Noddy books.

ETA: Remembered some others!  I also loved Richard Scarry books, especially this one:

thank you! I was just describing this book the other day to someone and I could not remember the name of it. No one else knew what I was talking about.

Such a cute book. And it's funny how reading this as a child it seemed perfectly normal for a dog to babysit a baby.

  • I wish my dog would babysit L so I could go out drinking!

I was obsessed with these four.  I think it was because my mom never let us have a pet.

Now that you've reminded me, I'm going to have to order them for L!

  • Have you ever heard Shel Silverstein read his own books?  At the day care I worked at we had The Giving Tree with the audio CD. Freaked the kids out every time!

And I swear there is a book about kittens getting into cans of paint, but I can't find the name.

Edison already has a sweet vintage Golden Books collection.
