Natural Birth

Met w/ our doula...

And now I am getting excited. :) She was great. She is committed to helping me have a natural labor but also assured me that "epi's are not evil" (haha), and if I do need one to help me progress (I seem to be a candidate for one who may need medicated pain relief for progression due to my tight/tense/locking muscles and history of pelvic floor issues), it's *okay.*

Oddly, I was really encouraged that she was so balanced in her approach and wasn't pressuring me to resist the epi at all costs - yet still encouraged me regarding natural pain management and progression techniques. It made me more confident that we have a decent chance of having a healthy labor experience without regrets. She also encouraged me to keep that chiro appt, helped my husband gain some more perspective on labor, and we'll start hashing out a birth plan at our next meeting. All in all, I feel so relieved we're going the doula route instead of heading into labor on our own!

  • YAY so happy for you!! I really like it when I see a balanced perspective- because every birth is different and I think it's important to have a rounded approach for all that could happen during delivery!

  • Thanks, yes, the balanced perspective puts me at ease so much more than I even realized! I feel like I am getting pressure from all "camps" to do labor a certain way, and I feel like all that pressure has melted away with this doula.
  • I'm so glad for you! That's how I always feel when I leave a meeting with our doula.

  • Congrats! I loved my doula :-D Also, if it helps to hear, I have had pelvic floor issues (was in over 6 months of PT to help the muscles relax that ended not long before I got pregnant) and I managed to go completely natural! My cervix had absolutely no problem dilating in labor, though I didn't dilate at all until labor started (I was at an absolute 0 the morning I went into labor): I went from 0-baby in just about 12 hours! So it is possible!

Wow, thanks for sharing your story! I rarely meet others who have experienced the "fun" of phys therapy for pelvic floor problems (my issues were also just starting to resolve the cycle or two before we got pregnant).
