My son is 3.5 months old and he is currently sitting in his bouncy seat in front of the tv. He is watching a baby einstein video and I know These videos really don't make him smarter or whatever --- but he love to see the colors. I just hate the fact that he is propped in front of the television already --- oh we'll maybe it's ok every once in a while

Re: Ugh -- tell me I'm not a horrible momma
This! Mine laughs hysterically sometimes.
Don't feel bad I do it too. It's the only way I can put DD down for a little while and not constantly be holding her!
I don't know much about the studies they have done with infants and TV viewing but I don't see why it's much different than a mobile or moving toy. Both have music and colors.
I agree. I know there are "studies" that link the two, but it isn't something that generally concerns me. LO receives much more stimulation throughout the day and genuinely enjoys watching TV for a few minutes here and there. I don't think it's a big deal. I asked my mom about it yesterday actually and she said I watched Little House on the Prairie all the time with her when I was a baby (lol) and I definitely don't have any ADD/ADHD/etc so TAKE THAT, ya researchers!
I agree with PP - not sure how TV is much different than other flashing lights toys at this age.
Now, the other day we plopped LO in her swing to watch Safe House with us. That was probably not a good idea. But, we agreed it was a one time thing.
I went into my office for a meeting a few weeks ago, and I called DH to see how our DD was doing (we're both off for the summer).
DH: "We're doing great. I changed her, fed her, and now we're watching Full Metal Jacket."
Oh well.
Before LO was born, I was going to be a strict no TV until she's two and then PBS only Mama, but that soooo went out the window once she was born.
We're both educators with advanced degrees. We have about 4000 books in our house, last count. Our kid is going to be fine. FINE. Or at least that is what I tell myself when she's propped up in the Snugabunny in front of Family Guy.
